Text to speech

Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Voice input & output.
  4. Touch Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Touch Install voice data.
  6. If necessary, review the Play Store Terms of Service and touch Accept.
  7. Touch Speech Synthesis Data Installer.
  8. Touch Install.
  9. Touch Accept & download.

 

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Voice input & output.
  4. Touch Text-to-speech settings.
  5. Touch to modify settings as desired.

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch and hold the Genius Button Genius+button.png.
  2. Say your command. Example: Say the phrase, "Open Messaging."

 

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and touch Voice Search.
  3. Speak your command.
  4. Example: Speak the phrase, “Call John Smith.”
  5. Confirm your selection. If you said a name that has more than one match in Contacts, or if you stored more than one number for the contact, the phone will prompt you to make the appropriate selection.

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch and hold the Genius Button Genius+button.png.
  2. Touch Send text.
  3. Speak the name of the contact you would like to send a message to.
  4. Touch the Microphone icon on the screen keyboard.
  5. Begin speaking the message you would like to send.
  6. Touch Send.
