Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  • If the device is slow, remove the widgets from Home screens (especially ones that update with information orhave animation).
  • If you are using live wallpaper and the device is slow, turn off the live wallpaper.
  • Remove all unused Home screens:
    • Pinch the Home screen.
    • On the grid of Home screens, drag unused screens to the trash.

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. View the Internal user storage.

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

  • Set the text message limit to delete messages automatically.
    Note: The default is 200 text and 20 picture messages. You may use this setting to start with, and decrease it if you continue to have problems.
  • Change the setting for email synchronization to download only for the past three days.

 

 

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. View the Internal system storage.

SD card

Format SD card

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  3. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  4. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  5. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  6. Right-click the removable disk.
  7. Click Format.

  8. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  9. Click Start.
  10. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Power the phone off.
  2. Remove the back cover using the notch located at  the bottom of the phone.

  3. Insert the  memory card with the gold contacts facing down.
  4. Slide the  card in until it clicks into place.
  5. To remove the memory card, follow these steps:
  6. Power the phone off.
  7. Remove the back cover using the notch  located at the bottom of the phone.

  8. Press the memory card in slightly until  it clicks out.
  9. Slide the memory  card out of the slot.

 

 

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the phone to your computer  using the USB cable.
  2. Tap Turn on USB storage.
    • Note: In some instances, you may have  to touch and drag the Status bar down and tap USB connected.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. On the computer,  navigate to and open the phone’s disk drive.
  5. Navigate to and  delete the desired file(s).
  6. When finished,  safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
  7. Tap Turn off USB storage

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap File Manager.
  3. Tap the SD card tab.
  4. Navigate to the desired  folder and file.
  5. Touch and hold the  file you want to delete.
  6. Tap Delete.
  7. Tap OK to  confirm.

 

 

Set default memory storage

By default, the device stores data on the [SD card or internal storage]. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. Connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  3. Note: In some instances,  you may have to touch and drag the Status bar down and tap USB connected.
  4. Tap OK.
  5. On the computer, navigate to and open the phone’s disk  drive.
  6. Navigate to and move the desired file(s).
  7. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
  8. Tap Turn off USB  storage.

To transfer files and pictures between the internal storage and SD card, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap File Manager.
  3. Tap Local
  4. Navigate to the  desired folder and file.
  5. Touch and hold the  file you want to copy.
  6. Tap Copy.
  7. Navigate back to  and tap the SD Card tab.
  8. Tap the desired  folder.
  9. Tap Paste.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Under SD card,  view Total space and Available  space.
