Developer options

Turn off developer options

If developer options are turned on, it can cause red border on the screen, errors when connecting to computers, or other problems. To turn off all developer options, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security and Privacy.
  4. Swipe up and tap Development Mode.
  5. Tap the Use Development Mode Switch to Off. The Switch moves left and turns grey.

Language

Change language

To change the language of the device and menus, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Tap Language and then tap the desired language.

First time use

Prepare the battery and SIM card

Before using the device, you need to insert the battery and SIM card. To prepare the battery and SIM card, see these steps:

 

 

 

Setup wizard

After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up your device. To do this initial setup, follow these steps:

 

  1. If desired, tap All languages and then select the desired language.
  2. Swipe left across the screen.
  3. If desired, tap a Wi-Fi network to connect and if necessary, enter the password. Tap Connect.
  4. Swipe left across the screen.
  5. If necessary, tap Country and then select your country.
  6. If desired, tap View Warranty Information and View Safety Information to read this information.
  7. Tap I Agree.
  8. From the 'BlackBerry ID' screen, choose one of the following options:

    • Tap Create New to open a new BlackBerry ID account. Follow the prompts.
    • Tap Sign in to sign into your existing BlackBerry ID account. Follow the prompts.
    • Swipe left across the screen to log into or create a BlackBerry ID account later.

  9. Read the Diagnostics and Location information. If desired, swipe up on the screen and tap More Information to read more.
  10. Tap Disable to turn off Diagnostics and Location or Enable to turn on Diagnostics and Location information.
  11. If desired, tap Set Up Wi-Fi to connect to a Wi-Fi network for downloading the Additional Updates (otherwise, you will download them over your data connection).
  12. Tap Continue to download the Additional Updates.
  13. Follow the on-screen prompts to learn the Essential Gestures and complete the Setup wizard.

Time & date

Auto-update time (NITZ)

To set the device clock to automatically update based on what time zone it is in, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Date and Time.
  4. Tap Auto Update Time Zone and then tap On.
  5. Tap the Set Date and Time Automatically Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.

 

 

Set time & date

To set the time and date of the device clock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Date and Time.
  4. Choose one of the following options:

    • Use your current time zone
      1. Tap Auto Update Time Zone and then tap Off.
      2. If necessary, tap the Set Date and Time Automatically Switch to On. The Switch moves right and fills with color.
      3. Tap Time zone and then tap your current time zone.

    • Manually set the time
      1. Tap Auto Update Time Zone and then tap Off.
      2. If necessary, tap the Set Date and Time Automatically Switch to Off. The Switch moves left and turns grey.
      3. Tap Date. Swipe up or down on the middle of the screen to set the date. Your set date displays in the middle row.
      4. Tap Time. Swipe up or down on the bottom of the screen to set the time. Your set time displays in the middle row.
