Backlight

Brightness

To make the screen backlight brighter or darker, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. If necessary, tap Automatic brightness to clear the check box and turn off.
  6. Touch and drag the Brightness level Slider to the desired setting.
  7. Tap OK.

 

 

Timeout

To change the time before the backlight times out, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen timeout.
  5. Tap the desired time setting.

Home screen

Add widget or shortcut

To add a widget or shortcut to the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to the desired Home screen where the widget or shortcut will be added.
  2. Touch and hold on a vacant area on the screen that is large enough to hold the widget or shortcut.
  3. Tap Apps and widgets.
  4. Tap one of the following options:
    • Apps tab
    • Widgets tab
  5. Swipe left or right and then touch and hold on the desired app or widget.
  6. Drag your finger to move the item to the desired location on the Home screen. Release your finger.

 

 

Delete widget or shortcut

To delete a widget or shortcut from the Home screen, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to the Home screen contaiing the widget or shortcut.
  2. Touch and hold on the widget or shortcut.
  3. Drag your finger to move the item over the Trash can icon.
  4. Release your finger.

 

 

Home screen wallpaper

To change the Home screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Set wallpaper.
  3. Tap Home screen.
  4. Tap one of the following options:

    • Gallery
      1. Navigate to and tap the desired image.
      2. If desired, touch and hold on the crop box and then drag your finger to move it.
      3. If desired, touch and drag an edge of the crop box to change its size.
      4. Tap Done.

    • Live wallpapers
      1. Tap the desired Live wallpaper to preview it.
      2. If available, tap Settings to adjust the wallpaper settings.
      3. Tap Set wallpaper.

    • Wallpapers
      1. At the bottom of the screen, swipe left or right to the desired wallpaper.
      2. Tap Set wallpaper.

 

 

Lock screen wallpaper

To change the lock screen wallpaper picture, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Set wallpaper.
  3. Tap Lock screen.
    Note: You can also tap Home and lock screens to set a Live wallpaper to your lock screen.
  4. Tap one of the following options:

    • Gallery
      1. Navigate to and tap the desired image.
      2. If desired, touch and hold on the crop box and then drag your finger to move it.
      3. If desired, touch and drag an edge of the crop box to change its size.
      4. Tap Done.


    • Wallpapers
      1. At the bottom of the screen, swipe left or right to the desired wallpaper.
      2. Tap Set wallpaper.

Keyboard

Change default keyboard

To change the default keyboard, follow these steps:

 

Samsung keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Tap Default.
  5. Tap Samsung keyboard.
  6. Tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon next to 'Samsung keyboard.'
  7. Tap Portrait keyboard types.
  8. Tap one of the following options:
    • Qwerty keyboard
    • 3 X 4 keyboard

Swype keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Tap Default.
  5. Tap Swype.

 

 

Enter symbols & numbers

To enter symbols and numbers with the keyboard, follow these steps:

 

Samsung keyboard - Qwerty

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, enter the desired numbers.
  2. To enter symbols or numbers, choose one of the following options:

    • From the alphabet keyboard, touch and hold on the key containing the desired symbol or number.

    • From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 123 Sym key.
      1. Tap the desired number.
      2. Tap the 1/3, 2/3, and 3/3 keys for more symbols. Tap the desired symbol.
        Note: For emoticons, tap the 3/3 key and then tap the desired emoticon key.
      3. Tap the ABC key to return to the alphabet keyboard.

Samsung keyboard - 3 X 4

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 123 Sym key to enter numbers.
  2. Tap the Sym ABC key to enter symbols.
  3. Tap the 1/4, 2/2, and 3/4, and 4/4 keys for more symbols.
    Note: To enter emoticons, tap the 4/4 key and then tap the desired emoticon key.
  4. Tap the ABC 123 key to return to the alphabet keyboard.


Swype keyboard

  1. From the alphabet keyboard, tap the 123 +!= key.
  2. To enter emoticons, touch and hold on the Smiling face key and then tap the desired emoticon.
    Note: You can enter numbers using the alphabet keyboard by touching and holding on the key containing the number. Release your finger when the number appears. Tap the number if necessary.
  3. Tap the More symbols more symbols key.jpg key to see more symbols.
  4. Touch and hold on a symbol key to see more symbols.
  5. Tap the desired number or symbol.
  6. To access more symbols, touch and hold on a key and if available, more symbols will pop up. Tap the desired symbol.
  7. Tap the ABC key to return to the alphabet keyboard.

 

 

Text entry mode

To change the text entry or predictive text mode, follow these steps:

 

Samsung keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Next to 'Samsung keyboard,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  5. To turn on predictive text, tap the Predictive text Switch to On. The Switch moves right and turns green. Tap Predictive text to adjust settings.
  6. To turn off predictive text, tap the Predictive text Switch to Off. The Switch moves left and turns grey.

Swype keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Next to 'Swype,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  5. Tap Preferences.
  6. To turn on predictive text, tap Next word prediction to select the check box.
  7. To turn off predictive text, tap Next word prediciton to clear the check box.

 

 

Turn on / off haptic feedback

To turn on or turn off haptic feedback vibration, follow these steps:

 

Samsung keyboard

We're sorry, but the Samsung keyboard does not support this feature. Haptic feedback is not supported and therefore cannot be turned on.

 

Swype keyboard

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and input.
  4. Next to 'Swype,' tap the Settings settings icon.jpg icon.
  5. Tap Preferences.
  6. To turn on, tap Vibrate on Keypress to select the check box.
  7. To turn off, tap Vibrate on Keypress to clear the check box.
