Voice commands & functions: BlackBerry Z10

Text to speech

Set up & turn on

  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap Screen Reader.
  5. Tap the Screen Reader switch to enable.
  6. Tap Continue on the confirmation message.
  7. Tap the screen twice to start using the Screen Reader.

 

 

Settings

  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap Screen Reader.
  5. Choose from the following settings:
    • Enable Screen Reader using Triple Tap
      Turn on the BlackBerry Screen Reader by quickly pressing the power key three times.
    • Confirmation Message
      Show a message to confirm you want to turn on the BlackBerry Screen Reader.
    • Dark Screen Mode
      Enable or disable Dark Screen Mode (10% Brightness)
    • Volume
      Adjust the volume of the Screen Reader.
    • Pitch
      Adjust the pitch of the Screen Reader.
    • Speed
      Adjust the speed of the Screen Reader.
    • Verbosity
      Adjust how much of the screen is read.
    • Silent on Calls
      Silence the Screen Reader when on a call.
    • Keyboard Echo
      Have the Screen Reader read back what letters you typed in.
    • Screen Reader Language
      Choose the language the Speed Reader reads in.

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to Home screen 2.
  2. Tap Voice Control.
  3. Say Open + [application name].
    Note: For example, say "Open Calendar" to open the Calendar application.
  4. Tap the Microphone icon.

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to Home screen 2.
  2. Tap Voice Control.
  3. Say Call + [contact name] + at + [phone number type].
    Note: For example, say "Call Ian at home" to dial a saved contact named Ian at his Home phone number.
  4. Tap the Microphone icon.

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Navigate to Home screen 2.
  2. Tap Voice Control.
  3. Say Text + [contact name].
    Note: For example, say "Text Nicole Lavigne" to send an SMS to a saved contact named Nicole Lavigne.
  4. Tap the Microphone icon.
  5. Speak the text you want to add to the message.
  6. Tap the Microphone icon.
  7. Tap Send.
