Developer options

Turn off developer options

If developer options are turned on, it can cause red border on the screen, errors when connecting to computers, or other problems. To turn off all developer options, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and slide down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Security and Privacy.
  4. Tap Development Mode.
  5. Tap the Use Development Mode switch to turn off.

Language

Change language

To change the language of the device and menus, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and slide down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language and Input.
  4. Tap the Language field.
  5. Select the desired language. The device will automatically re-load your screen in the newly selected language.

First time use

Prepare the battery and SIM card

Before using the device, you need to insert the battery and SIM card. To prepare the battery and SIM card, see these steps:

 

 

 

Setup wizard

After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up your device. To do this initial setup, follow these steps:

 

  1. The default language for the device is set to English. If necessary, tap All Languages to select a different language.
  2. Touch the screen and slide left to continue.
  3. If desired, set up a Wi-Fi network.
    Note: Touch the screen and slide left to skip this step and continue.
  4. Tap View Warranty Information.
  5. Scroll down to review the warranty information, and then tap OK.
  6. Review the license agreement, and then tap I Agree.
  7. If desired, set up a BlackBerry account.
    Note: Touch the screen and slide left to skip this step and continue.
  8. Review the 'Diagnostics and Location' details, and then select one of the following:
    • Disable
    • Enable
  9. If necessary, tap Update to install any available software updates.
    Note: If the device is completely up to date, touch the screen and slide left to continue.
  10. The Essential Gestures tutorial will begin. Touch the screen and slide left to continue.
  11. Follow the on-screen prompts until the tutorial is complete.

Time & date

Auto-update time (NITZ)

To set the device clock to automatically update based on what time zone it is in, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and slide down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Date and Time.
  4. Tap Auto Update Time Zone.
  5. Select one of the following:
    • On
    • Off
    • Prompt

Note: This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

 

 

Set time & date

To set the time and date of the device clock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and slide down.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Date and Time.
  4. If necessary, tap the Set Date and Time Automatically switch to turn off.
  5. Enter the desired date and time.
