Set up & turn on

To set up and use text to speech, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All apps AllAppsicon.jpgicon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap TalkBack.
  5. Tap the the TalkBack slider to turn off or on.

 

Settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change text to speech settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All appsAllAppsicon.jpgicon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Language & input.
  4. Tap Text-to-speech output.
  5. Tap the Settings icon to modify settings as desired.

Voice commands

Open an app

To open apps using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. Swipe up from the home button to open Google Now.
  2. Say a command. For example: Speak, "Open Messaging."

 

 

Voice dial a contact

To use voice dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

 

  1. Swipe up from the home button to open Google Now.
  2. Say a command. For example: Speak, “Call John Smith.”

 

 

Write a text message (SMS) with voice

To write and send a text message (SMS) using voice commands, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the All appsAllAppsicon.jpgicon.
  2. Tap Messaging.
  3. Compose a new text message.
  4. At To, enter the contact’s name or phone number.
  5. Tap the text entry field.
  6. Tap the Microphone icon on the keyboard.
  7. Speak the message that you would like to send.
  8. Tap Send.
