Back up data

Back up apps

To back up your apps, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch the Notification bar and slide down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll down to the Personal section, and tap Backup & reset.
  4. Select Back up my settings.
  5. Tap Backup account.
  6. Tap Add account.
    Note: If the desired back up account is already added, simply select the account and skip the remaining steps.
  7. Tap Existing to log in to an existing Google account.
    Note: To create a new account now, tap New and follow the on-screen prompts.
  8. Enter your email address.
  9. Tap the Password field and enter your password.
  10. Tap the Next arrow.
  11. Make sure that the Keep this phone backed up option is selected and tap the Next arrow.
  12. If prompted, select Not now on the Join Google+ screen.

 

 

Back up contacts

To back up your contacts, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  2. Tap People.
  3. Tap the Menu icon.
  4. Tap Manage contacts.
  5. Tap Copy contacts.
    Note: To use the SIM card to back up contacts, tap Import/Export contacts and follow the on-screen prompts.
  6. Tap Phone.
  7. Select Google.
  8. Tap OK.
  9. Tap OK again.

 

 

Back up media & pictures

To back up your media and pictures, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
  2. On the computer when the AutoPlay window appears, click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.
    Note: If the AutoPlay window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.
  3. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the Internal storage folder.
  4. Copy the media or picture files from your device to a folder on the computer.
  5. When you are done copying, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray.
  6. Click Eject.
  7. Disconnect the device from the computer.

Restore data

Restore apps

To restore backed up apps, follow these steps:

 

  1. Touch the Notification bar and slide down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll down to the Personal section, and tap Backup & reset.
  4. If necessary, tap Backup account and select or create an account.
  5. Select Automatic restore.

 

 

Restore contacts

To restore backed up contacts, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Phone.
  2. Tap the People tab.
  3. Tap the Menu icon.
  4. Tap Manage contacts.
  5. Tap Copy contacts.
    Note: To use the SIM card to restore contacts, tap Import/Export contacts and follow the on-screen prompts.
  6. Select Google.
  7. Tap Phone.
  8. Tap OK.
  9. Tap OK again.

 

 

Restore media & pictures

To restore backed up media and pictures, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
  2. On the computer when the AutoPlay window appears, click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.
    Note: If the AutoPlay window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.
  3. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the Internal storage folder.
  4. Copy the media or picture files from your computer to the device.
  5. When you are done copying, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray.
  6. Click Eject.
