Backlight

Brightness

To raise or lower the screen brightness, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. Tap to clear the Automatic brightness check box, if necessary.
  6. Touch and drag the Brightness bar left or right.
  7. Tap OK.

Duration

To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Timeout.
  5. Tap the timeout option you want.

To access the help documents on your tablet, follow these steps:

IMEI

To find the IMEI on your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About tablet.
  4. Tap Status.
  5. Scroll to and view the tablet’s IMEI number.

 

Software version

To find the software version on your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About tablet.
  4. Scroll to and view the Android version number.

Device login

Create and log in to new Google account

To create and log in to a new Google account, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts & sync.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap New.
  7. Enter your first name.
  8. Enter your last name.
  9. Enter the username you want for your email address.
  10. Tap Done.
  11. Tap Next.
  12. Enter a password.
  13. Confirm password.
  14. Tap Done.
  15. Tap Next.
  16. Tap the Security question drop-down menu.
  17. Tap one of the following options:
    • Frequent flyer number
    • Library card number
    • First phone number
    • First teacher’s name
    • Father’s middle name
  18. Enter the answer.
  19. Tap Next.
  20. Enter a secondary, back-up email address, if desired.
  21. Tap Done.
  22. Tap Create.
  23. Tap I agree, Next.
  24. Enter the Captcha.
  25. Tap Done.
  26. Tap Next.
  27. Tap Next.
  28. Tap Finish setup.

 

Log in / out of existing Google account

To log in to existing Google account, follow these steps:

 

Log in

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts & sync.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Enter your username
  7. Enter your password.
  8. Tap Done.
  9. Tap Sign in.
  10. Tap Next.
  11. Tap Finish setup.

 

Log out

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts & sync.
  4. Tap to select the desired account.
  5. Tap the Menu icon.
  6. Tap Remove account.

 

Note: Some applications require at least one Google account. To remove all Google accounts you must reset the tablet to restore the factory defaults.

Network

Turn on / off Airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off all the wireless radios – Mobile Network (cellular), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. This allows you to use programs while travelling on an airplane.

 

To turn on or off airplane mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap to select or clear the Airplane mode check box to turn on or off.

Turn on / off Browser message (WAP Push)

WAP push messages (browser messages) allow you to download ringtones, wallpapers, and other content from the Web. WAP Push messages are supported but cannot be turned on or off.

Change band

To change the network band selection, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap to select the Use only 2G networks check box to use a 2G connection only.

Turn on / off data roaming

To turn on or off data roaming, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap to select or clear the Data roaming check box to connect or disconnect data services when roaming.
  6. If prompted, tap OK.

Perform manual network selection

To manually select the wireless network the tablet connects to, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Network operators.
  6. If necessary, tap Search networks.
  7. Tap the desired network.

 

The tablet detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

Reset

Back up tablet files to computer before master reset

 

Note: A master reset will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, videos, applications, and contacts stored in the tablet’s internal memory.

 

To copy files from the tablet to a computer using a USB cable, follow these steps:

 

On a Windows computer

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Tap the Menu icon.
  5. Tap USB computer connection.
  6. Tap to select the Media device (MTP) check box.
  7. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB/charging port on your tablet.
  8. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the USB port of your computer.
  9. A Portable Device window may open on your computer’s desktop. Click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer and then click OK.

 

OR

 

  1. On your computer, click Start and then click My Computer.
  2. Double-click SpringBoard  to access the folders and files of the tablet’s internal storage and the memory (SD) card (if available).
  3. Double-click Internal Storage to access the tablet’s folders and files.
  4. Drag and drop the folders or files from the tablet onto your computer desktop or into another folder on the computer.
  5. When you are finished, click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray on the lower right-hand corner of your computer desktop.
  6. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device - Drives.
  7. Disconnect the USB cable from your computer and then from your tablet.

 

On a Macintosh computer

For Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.5 or later, you need Android File Transfer to access and transfer files between your Mac and an Android device running Android 3.0 or later.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Tap the Menu icon.
  5. Tap USB computer connection.
  6. Tap to select the Media device (MTP) check box.
  7. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the USB/charging port on your tablet.
  8. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the USB port of your Mac computer.
  9. On your computer, navigate to the Applications folder and double-click Android File Transfer.
  10. A Finder window named SpringBoard will open and allow access to folders and files on the tablet’s internal storage and the memory (SD) card (if available).
  11. Click Internal Storage to access the tablet’s folders and files.
  12. Drag and drop the folders or files from the tablet onto your computer desktop or into another folder on the computer.
  13. When you are finished, close the SpringBoard Finder window or exit the Android File Transfer application.
  14. Disconnect the USB cable from your computer and then from your tablet.

File types and locations on device

Note: This is not a complete list of files and folders, and some of the items listed may not appear on your tablet. Be sure to locate and back up any content you want to save.

 

  • DCIM (photos and videos)
  • Download
  • Images
  • Movies
  • Music
  • Notifications
  • Pictures
  • Podcasts
  • Record
  • Ringtones

 

Other files may not be in a folder, including files you previously transferred from your computer to the tablet, and files from Polaris Office (filenames ending in .doc and .xls).

Perform master reset

 

A master reset (factory data reset) restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the tablet’s internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory (SD) card (if available).

 

To perform a master reset, follow these steps.

 

Note: Unless Back up my data and Automatic restore are turned off, they may cause recurrence of issues that the master reset should resolve.

 

  1. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to a computer if the tablet is responsive and can synchronize files.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Backup & reset.
  5. If desired, tap to clear the Back up my data check box.
  6. If desired, tap to clear the Automatic restore check box.
  7. Tap Factory data reset.
  8. Read the message about erasing data.
  9. Tap Reset tablet.
  10. Tap Erase everything.

 

Perform master clear

A master clear restores the original factory settings and erases all user data stored in the tablet’s internal memory AND formats the memory (SD) card, which erases contacts, messages, music, picture and video files, and downloaded content.

 

To perform a master clear, follow these steps:

 

Note: Unless Back up my data and Automatic restore are turned off, they may cause recurrence of issues that the master reset should resolve.

 

  1. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to a computer if the tablet is responsive and can synchronize files.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Erase SD card.
  6. Tap Erase SD card again.
  7. Tap Backup & reset.
  8. Tap Factory data reset.
  9. Read the message about erasing data.
  10. Tap Reset tablet.
  11. If desired, tap to select the Erase all data on the internal storage, such as music and photos check box.
  12. Tap Erase everything.

 

Perform master reset using hardware keys

  1. Power off your tablet.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up button and then press the Power key.
  3. Once the Springboard vibrates, quickly release the power button AND press Volume Down button. Continue to hold BOTH Volume buttons.
  4. When a green Android image appears with cranks/gears around it, release the Volume buttons.
  5. The device has been successful reset. The process may take up to 10 minutes.

 

Perform soft reset

A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs. This can help when the tablet is running slower than normal or not performing properly.

 

To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Save any files that are open.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. Wait until the tablet powers off.
  5. Press and hold the Power key to restart.

Security

Change – SIM PIN code

To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

 

Note: You can only change the SIM PIN code when the SIM card is locked.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Set up SIM/RUIM card lock.
  5. If necessary, tap to select the Lock SIM card check box.
  6. Enter the old SIM PIN code.
  7. Tap OK.
  8. Tap Change SIM PIN.
  9. Enter the old SIM PIN code.
  10. Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  11. Tap OK.
  12. Enter the new SIM PIN code.
  13. Tap OK.
  14. Enter the new SIM PIN code again to confirm.
  15. Tap OK.

 

Change – Security code – Not supported

Lock device – Password

Device lock causes the tablet to lock when you turn it off. When you turn the tablet back on, you must enter a password.

Enable password lock

To enable a password screen lock on the tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Screen lock.
  5. Tap Password.
  6. Enter the password.
  7. Tap Continue.
  8. Enter the password again to confirm.
  9. Tap OK.

 

Disable password lock

To disable a password screen lock on the tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Screen lock.
  5. Enter the password.
  6. Tap Continue.

 

Lock device – Pattern

Device lock causes the tablet to lock when you turn it off. When you turn the tablet back on, you must draw a pattern.

Enable pattern lock

To enable a pattern screen lock on the tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location & security.
  4. Tap Configure lock screen.
  5. Tap Pattern.
  6. View the simulation and read the instructions for creating a personal screen unlock pattern to secure your tablet.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Touch and drag to draw a pattern, connecting at least four dots.
  9. Tap Continue.
  10. Touch and drag to draw your pattern again.
  11. Tap Confirm.

 

Disable pattern lock

To disable a pattern screen lock on the tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Screen lock.
  5. Touch and drag to draw your pattern.
  6. Tap Not secured to disable unlock settings.

 

Lock device – PIN

Device lock causes the tablet to lock when you turn it off. When you turn the tablet back on, you must enter a PIN.

Enable PIN lock

To enable a PIN screen lock on the tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location & security.
  4. Tap Configure lock screen.
  5. Tap PIN.
  6. Enter the PIN.
  7. Tap Continue.
  8. Enter the PIN again to confirm.
  9. Tap OK.

 

Disable PIN lock

To disable a PIN screen lock on the tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Screen lock.
  5. Enter the PIN.
  6. Tap Continue.

 

Lock SIM card

The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being used in other devices. When you enable the SIM PIN lock, the tablet prompts you to enter the code after turning it on.

Enable SIM lock

To enable a SIM card lock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Set up SIM/RUIM card lock.
  5. Tap to select the Lock SIM card check box.
  6. Enter the SIM PIN.
  7. Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  8. Tap OK.

 

Disable SIM lock

To disable a SIM card lock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. Tap Set up SIM/RUIM card lock.
  5. Tap to clear the Lock SIM card check box and disable the SIM lock.
  6. Enter the SIM PIN.
  7. Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  8. Tap OK.

 

Unblock – PIN (PUK Code)

  • “PIN1 Blocked. Enter PUK1”
  • “Please see the User Guide/contact Customer Care”

 

If you enter the PIN code incorrectly three times in a row, the tablet blocks you from attempting again. The SIM card becomes locked and prevents access to the tablet. You need a special PIN Unlock Key (PUK) to unlock the SIM and regain access.

 

To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

 

 

Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

 

The tablet will display the message ‘PIN1 Blocked. Enter PUK1’.

 

  1. Contact Customer Care to request your PUK code.
  2. Tap Enter PUK on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. The SIM Reset screen will appear.
  4. Enter the PUK code provided by T-Mobile Customer Care.
  5. Tap Unlock.
  6. Enter the new PIN code you want.
  7. Tap OK.
  8. Entire the new PIN code again.
  9. Tap OK.

Unblock – SIM (Mobile Device unlock)

  • “Enter Special Code”
  • “Please Wait to Enter Special Code”

 

The Mobile Device unlock code allows the tablet to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier. To enter the Mobile Device unlock code, follow these steps:

 

 

Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The tablet locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

 

  1. Contact T-Mobile Customer Care to request a Mobile Device unlock code.
  2. Turn the tablet off.
  3. Insert the SIM card from the other wireless carrier.
  4. Turn the tablet on again.
  5. The SIM network unlock PIN screen will appear.
  6. Tap the SIM network unlock PIN field and enter the code provided by T-Mobile Customer Care.
  7. Tap Unlock.

Time and date

Alarm clock – Set

To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Clock.
  3. Tap Set alarm.
  4. Tap Add alarm.
  5. Tap Time.
  6. Touch and drag the number wheels to the desired alarm time.
  7. Touch and drag the AM/PM wheel to the desired time period.
  8. Tap Set.
  9. If desired, tap Label and enter a name for the alarm.
  10. If desired, tap Ringtone and tap the ringtone you want.
  11. Tap Repeat.
  12. Tap to select the check box for each day of the week you want the alarm to repeat.
  13. Tap OK.
  14. If desired, tap Vibrate to turn vibration on or off.
  15. Tap Done.
  16. Tap Done again.

Auto-update (NITZ)

Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time while the tablet turns on.

 

Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your tablet, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

 

To turn NITZ on or off, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Date & time.
  4. Tap to select or clear the Automatic date & time check box to turn on or off network-provided date and time updates.
  5. Tap to select or clear the Automatic time zone check box to turn on or off network-provided time zone updates.

Time / date – Set

To set the time and date, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Date & time.
  4. If necessary, tap to clear the Automatic date & time check box and turn off automatic update.
  5. Tap Set date.
  6. Touch and drag the number wheels or tap the calendar to set the current date.
  7. Tap Set.
  8. Tap Set time.
  9. Touch and drag the number wheels to set the current time.
  10. Tap Set.
  11. If desired, tap to clear the Automatic time zone check box and turn off automatic time zone update.
  12. Tap Select time zone.
  13. Tap the time zone you want.
  14. If desired, tap to select Use 24-hour format.
  15. If desired, tap Select date format.
  16. Tap one of the following options:
    • 12/31/2011
    • 31/12/2011
    • 2011/12/31
