Bluetooth / Infrared

Bluetooth – Transfer files

To transfer files using Bluetooth, follow these steps:

 

  1. Locate the file that you want to transfer. Examples of files you can transfer are contacts, photos, and videos.
  2. Depending on the application, either tap the Menu  icon or touch and hold the file.
  3. Tap the Share  icon (on the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
  4. Tap Bluetooth.
  5. If prompted, tap Turn on, to turn on Bluetooth. A list of available Bluetooth devices displays.
  6. Tap the device you want to pair with.
  7. Tap Pair.
  8. If necessary, tap Pair or Accept on the target device.
  9. If necessary, tap Accept again on the target device.

Bluetooth – Turn off and disconnect

To turn off Bluetooth® connectivity, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap to clear the Bluetooth check box.

Bluetooth – Turn on and pair

To turn on and pair a Bluetooth® connection with another device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap to select the Bluetooth check box to turn it on.
  4. Tap Find nearby devices.
  5. Under Found devices, tap the device that you want to pair with.
  6. If prompted, enter the PIN or wireless passcode.
  7. Tap OK.

Infrared – Not supported

Data synchronization

Edit application sync settings

To edit application sync settings, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts & sync.
  4. Tap to select or clear the Background data check box to enable or disable background data synchronization.
  5. If necessary, tap OK.

Data synchronization (automatic)

To automatically synchronize data, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts & sync.
  4. Tap to select or clear the Auto-sync check box to enable or disable automatic data synchronization.

Data synchronization (manual)

To manually synchronize data, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts & sync.
  4. Under Manage accounts, tap an account you want to sync manually.
  5. If available, tap the options you want to sync, such as Sync Contacts or Sync Calendar.
  6. To synchronize all categories of data all at once, tap the Sync now icon on the upper right-hand corner of the screen. If Auto-sync is turned on, then your accounts will synchronize automatically.

Global Positioning System (GPS)

Turn on / off GPS

To turn on / off GPS, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location & services.
  4. Tap to select or clear the GPS satellites check box.

Google Maps

Find your location

To find your location with Google Maps, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Maps.
  3. If necessary, tap OK.
  4. Tap the My Location icon (first icon from the left on the upper right-hand corner of the screen). The blue marker  shows your location.

Get directions

To look up driving directions with Google Maps, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Maps.
  3. If necessary, tap OK.
  4. Tap the Directions icon (third icon from the left on the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
  5. Tap the My Location field to open the on-screen keyboard.
  6. Enter your location or tap the Bookmarks icon next to the field and then tap one of the following options:
    • My current location
    • Contacts
    • Point on map
  7. Tap the End point field to open the on-screen keyboard.
  8. Enter the desired text or tap the Bookmarks icon and then tap one of the following options:
    • Contacts
    • Point on map
    • My Places
  9. Tap the type of transportation you want to use.
  10. Tap Go.

Search for location

To search for location with Google Maps, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Maps.
  3. If necessary, tap OK.
  4. Tap Search Maps on the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
  5. Perform one of the following actions:
  6. Enter the desired text and tap the Enter key on the on-screen keyboard.
  7. Tap an entry from the drop-down list.

Select map mode

To select map mode with Google Maps, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Maps.
  3. If necessary, tap OK.
  4. Tap the Layers icon (next to the Menu icon on the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • Traffic
    • Satellite
    • Terrain
    • Transit Lines
    • Latitude
    • My Maps
    • Bicycling
    • Wikipedia

 

To view the map in its original form, tap the Layers icon and then tap Clear Map.

Internet and browser

Access Internet / Enter URL

To access the Internet or enter a URL on the mobile browser, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Browser.
  3. Tap the address field to open the on-screen keyboard.
  4. Enter a Web address.
  5. Tap the Enter key.

Add browser bookmark

To add a bookmark to the tablet’s browser, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Browser.
  3. Tap the address field to open the on-screen keyboard.
  4. Enter a Web address.
  5. Tap the Enter key.
  6. If necessary, tap the Arrow icon in the Web page tab to view the address bar.
  7. Tap the Star icon on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  8. Tap the Label field to open the on-screen keyboard.
  9. Enter a name for the bookmark.
  10. Tap OK.

Browser settings (clear cache, view history)

To clear the mobile browser cache, cookies, or history, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Browser.
  3. Tap the Menu icon on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Privacy & security.
  6. Tap one of the following options:
    • Clear cache
    • Clear history
    • Clear all cookie data
    • Clear form data
    • Clear location access
    • Clear passwords
  7. Tap OK.

Copy and paste text

To copy and paste text within the Web browser, follow these steps:

 

  1. On any Web page, touch and hold the text you want to copy.
  2. Touch and drag the text selection handles to the desired locations.
  3. Tap Copy on the top of the screen.
  4. Touch and hold a text field where you want to paste the text.
  5. Tap Paste.

Go forward / back a page

To navigate back to the previous Web page or forward to the next Web page, perform one of the following actions:

 

To go forward:

  1. On any Web page, tap the page tab to view the address bar.
  2. Tap the Forward Arrow icon.

To go back:

  1. On any Web page, tap the page tab to view the address bar
  2. Tap the Back Arrow icon.

Turn on JavaScript setting

To turn on the JavaScript setting, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Browser.
  3. Tap the Menu icon on the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap Advanced.
  6. Tap to select or clear the Enable JavaScript check box.

Search within a page

To search for text within a Web page, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Web page, tap the Menu icon.
  2. Tap Find on page.
  3. Enter the search text.
  4. Tap the Right Arrow icon to view the next instance of the search term.
  5. Tap the Left Arrow icon to view the previous instance.
  6. Tap Done to deselect all instances of the search text.

Open new window

To open a new Web browser window, tap the Plus icon to open a new browser window

Zoom in / out

To zoom in and out of a Web page, follow these steps:

 

Place the tips of your thumb and forefinger together on the screen surface, and then slide them apart or together to zoom in or out to the desired text or image size.

 

OR

 

  1. From any Web page, tap the Menu icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Advanced.
  4. Tap Default zoom.
  5. Tap one of the following options, which are listed in order of increasing text or image size:
    • Far
    • Medium
    • Close
  6. Tap the Browser icon on the upper left-hand corner of the screen to return to the browser.

Latitude

Disable

To disable Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
  3. Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  4. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  5. Tap your name.
  6. Tap Location settings.
  7. Scroll down and tap Sign out of Latitude.

Friends – Add

To add friends to Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap the Menu icon.
  5. Tap Add friends.
  6. Tap one of the following options:
    • Select from Contacts
      1. Tap the contacts you want to add.
      2. Tap Yes.
    • Add via email address
      1. Enter the e-mail address.
      2. Tap the Enter key.
      3. Tap Yes.
  7. Repeat the procedure for each friend you want to add.

Note: You must send each invitation to a friend’s Gmail address. When the friend accepts your invitation, your friend’s location appears on the map.

Friends – Remove

To remove friends from Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap the friend you want to remove.
  5. Tap Remove this friend.
  6. Tap OK.

Join

To join Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
  3. Perform one of the following actions:

 

If you have not yet added and signed in to a Google account on the device:

    1. Enter the username and password you want to use and tap Sign in.
    2. Follow the steps to finish creating a Google account.

 

If you have already added and signed in to a Google account on the device:

You join Latitude automatically.

Settings – Change photo

To change a photo for Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap your name.
  5. Tap Change your photo.
  6. Tap one of the following:


Take a photo

    1. Frame the subject and tap the Camera icon to take the picture.
    2. Tap Ok.
    3. Move the crop box to the desired location.
    4. Tap Ok.


Pick from gallery

    1. Locate and tap the image you want.
    2. Tap Ok.

 

Settings – Change status

Settings – City level sharing

To set city level sharing for Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap the desired friend.
  5. Tap Manage Sharing.
  6. Tap Share only city level location.
    Note: The specified friend sees only the city where you are located.

 

To turn off city-level sharing:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the desired friend.
  4. Tap Manage Sharing.
  5. Tap Share best available location.

Settings – Hide location from all friends

To hide location from all friends in Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap your name.
  5. Tap Location settings.
  6. Tap Location reporting.
  7. Tap Do not update your location.
    Note: To unhide, tap Detect your location.

Settings – Hide location from one friend

To hide location from one specific friend in Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap the friend from whom you want to hide your location.
  5. Tap Manage shating.
  6. Tap Hide from this friend.
    Note: To unhide, tap Share best available location or Share only city level location.

Settings – Set location automatically

To set the location to detect automatically in Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap your name.
  5. Tap Location settings.
  6. Tap Location reporting.
  7. Tap Detect your location.

Settings – Set location manually

To manually set the location in Latitude, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Latitude.
    Note: If you have not signed in to Google, you must sign in or create an account at this time.
  3. Tap the Back key to return to the Latitude home screen, if necessary.
  4. Tap your name.
  5. Tap Location settings.
  6. Tap Location reporting.
  7. Tap Set your location.
  8. Tap one of the following options:
    • My current location
      • Tap your current or a nearby location.

 

    • Enter an address
      1. Enter your address.
      2. Tap OK.

 

    • Contacts
      1. Scroll to the contact whose address you want to use.
      2. Tap the contact whose address you want to use as your location.

 

    • Point on map
      1. Tap your location on the map.
      2. Tap Tap to select this point.

Voice Search

Voice Search – Use

To use Google Voice Search on the Internet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Microphone icon on the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Yes.
  3. Tap Speak now.
  4. Speak your search.
  5. To voice search again, tap Speak again.

Use Location – Turn on / off

‘Use Location’ allows Google to use your physical location to improve your search results and other services.

 

To turn on or turn off ‘Use Location’, follow these steps:

Turn on

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location services.
  4. Tap to select the Location & Google search check box.
  5. If necessary, tap Agree.

Turn off

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location services.
  4. Tap to clear the Location & Google search check box.

SafeSearch – Turn on / off

To turn on or turn off SafeSearch, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Microphone icon on the top of the screen.
  2. If prompted, tap Yes or No.
  3. Tap Settings icon.
  4. Tap Safe Search.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • Off
    • Moderate
    • Strict

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Add new network

To add a new VPN network, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap VPN.
  5. Tap Add VPN network.
  6. Tap one of the following options:
    • PPTP
    • L2TP/IPSec PSK
    • L2TP/IPSec RSA

    • IPSec Xauth PSK

    • IPSec Xauth RSA

    • IPSec Hybrid RSA

  7. Enter the required settings.
  8. Tap Save.

Connect to network

To connect to a VPN network, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap VPN.
  5. Tap the name of the VPN network you want to connect to.

Wi-Fi

HotSpot – Find location

To locate a T-Mobile HotSpot from your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Browser.
  3. Tap the Web address (URL) field.
  4. Enter hotspot.t-mobile.com.
  5. Tap the Enter key.
  6. Tap HotSpot locations.
  7. Tap Go to find a HotSpot location near you.
  8. Tap the text fields to enter location information.
  9. Tap Submit.

Hotspot – Log in

To log in to a T-Mobile HotSpot from your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  4. If necessary, tap to select the Wi-Fi check box to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
  5. Tap the T-Mobile HotSpot to which you want to connect.
  6. If prompted, enter the key or wireless password.
  7. Tap Connect.

MAC address – Locate

To locate the Wi-Fi MAC address for your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About tablet.
  4. Tap Status.
  5. Scroll to and view Wi-Fi MAC address.

Network – Add from available

To add a new Wi-Fi network from available networks, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  4. If necessary, tap to select the Wi-Fi check box to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
  5. Tap the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect.
  6. If security is enabled, enter the key or wireless password.
  7. Tap Connect.

Network – Add manually

To manually add a new Wi-Fi network, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  4. If necessary, tap to select the Wi-Fi check box to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
  5. At the top-right, tap Add network.
  6. Enter the Network SSID.
  7. Tap the Security drop-down menu.
  8. Tap one of the following options:
    • Open
    • WEP
    • WPA/WPA2 PSK
    • 802.1x EAP
  9. If required, enter additional security settings.
  10. Tap Save.

Network – Scan for / connect to available

To scan for and connect to available Wi-Fi networks, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  4. If necessary, tap to select the Wi-Fi check box to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
  5. At the top-right, tap Scan.
  6. Tap the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect.
  7. If security is enabled, enter the key or wireless password.
  8. Tap Connect.

Network – Delete

To delete a Wi-Fi network, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  4. If necessary, tap to select the Wi-Fi check box to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
  5. Touch and hold the Wi-Fi network you want to delete.
  6. Tap Forget network.
    Note: You can only delete a network that you had once connected to, or that you had added manually.

Network – Edit details

To edit network details (such as a password) for a secure network you have previously connected to, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi settings.
  4. If necessary, tap Wi-Fi to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
  5. Touch and hold the network you want to edit.
  6. Tap Modify network.
  7. Change the password as desired.
  8. Tap Save.

Router – Get security key – Not supported

Wi-Fi – Turn on / turn off

To turn on Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Under Wireless & networks, tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap to select or clear the Wi-Fi check box.

Tethering & Wi-Fi Sharing

 

With Tethering, your tablet can share its mobile data connection with a single computer using a USB cable. With Wi-Fi Sharing, your tablet can share its mobile data connection with up to five devices wirelessly.

 

To use Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing, your unlimited data plan must include the Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing add-on feature.

Connection Icons

When your tablet is sharing its data connection, an icon appears on the Status bar at the top of your tablet’s screen.

Tethering

Your tablet has the capability to share its mobile data connection with a single computer via a USB cable.

 

Tethering works with Windows® 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista®. For more information on tethering with operating systems, visit www.android.com/tether#usb.

 

Depending on your computer operating system (OS) you may need to install Hi Suite by Huawei on your computer before you can tether.

 

When you connect your tablet to your computer with the USB cable, you can either tether or access files on the memory card but you cannot do both. If you want to use your computer to access the tablet memory or memory card, then you must have tethering turned off.


 

Tether Your Tablet

The first time you connect your tablet to your computer using the USB cable, you will see an installation window for Hi Suite by Huawei. Windows operating systems prior to Windows 7 may require you to install Hi Suite to use tethering.

To share your mobile data connection with a single Windows computer by tethering, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect your tablet to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. On your tablet, from any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  5. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
  6. Tap to select the USB tethering check box.
  7. Your tablet will start sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the USB connection.

Wi-Fi Sharing

You can share your mobile data connection with up to five devices at once by turning your tablet into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

 

Note: When your tablet is serving as a Wi-Fi hotspot for other devices, you cannot access the Internet on the tablet itself.

Portable Wi-Fi hotspot turn on / off

To turn a Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on or off, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
  5. Tap to select the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.
    Note: Your tablet starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect it to other computers or devices. Your tablet’s default SSID is SpringBoard.
  6. Your tablet is now sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the Wi-Fi connection.

Configure Portable Wi-Fi hotspot

To configure a Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, follow these steps:

 

From any Home screen, tap Apps.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  3. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
  4. Tap Configure Wi-Fi hotspot.
  5. Enter a name for the network SSID.
  6. Tap the Security drop-down menu.
  7. Tap one of the following options:
    • Open
    • WPA PSK
    • WPA2 PSK
  8. If applicable, tap the Password field to open the on-screen keyboard and enter your password. Your password must be at least 8 characters long.
  9. Tap Save.
  10. On your computer, connect to your tablet (SSID) via Wi-Fi hotspot.

Connect using Wi-Fi Sharing

To connect to a Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under Wireless & networks, tap More.
  4. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
  5. Tap to select the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.
  6. From another device, connect to your tablet (SSID) using Wi-Fi sharing.
    Note: your tablet’s default SSID is SpringBoard.
