    Call basics

    Answer calls

    To answer a call,follow these steps:

    Touch and drag the green Phone icon to the right.

     

    Reject calls

    To reject a call,follow these steps:

    Touch and drag the red Phone icon to the left.

     

    Block calls

    To block a call, follow these steps:

    Reject call with message

    1. During an incoming call, touch and drag up Reject call with message.
    2. Tap Send next to the desired pre-defined reject message

    OR

    1. Tap Create new message.
    2. If prompted, tap Messaging.
    3. Enter a custom message and tap the Send message icon.

     

    Auto reject list

    Add numbers to the Auto reject list

    To add numbers to the Auto reject list, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap Menu key.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Call rejection.
    5. Tap Auto reject mode.
    6. Tap Auto reject numbers to enable.
    7. Tap Auto reject list.
    8. Tap Add.
    9. Enter the number you want to reject.
      • Note: You can also tap the Contacts icon to select contacts in your logs or contact list.
    10. Tap Match criteria.
    11. Tap one of the following options:
      • Exactly the same as
      • Start with
      • Ends with
      • Includes
    12. Tap Save.
    13. If desired, tap to select the Unknown check box to block unknown callers.
      • Note: You will receive a message notifying you when a call has been rejected.

     

    Temporarily remove numbers from Auto reject list

    To temporarily remove numbers from the auto reject list, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap Menu key.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Call rejection.
    5. Tap Auto reject list.
    6. Tap to clear the check box next to the number you want to remove from auto reject.

     

    Permanently remove numbers from Auto reject list

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap Menu key.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Call rejection.
    5. Tap Auto reject list.
    6. Touch and hold the number you want to delete from the auto reject list.
    7. Tap Delete.
    8. Tap OK.

     

    Dial

    Use the keyboard

    To make a call using the keyboard, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. If necessary, tap the Key pad tab.
    3. Enter the phone number using the keypad.
    4. Tap the green Phone icon.

     

    Use the phone book

    To make a call from the phone book, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap the Contacts tab.
    3. Swipe from left to right across desired contact listing to place a call.

     

    Use speed dial

    To make a call using speed dial, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. If necessary, tap the Keypad tab.
    3. Touch and hold the desired speed dial number on the keypad to place the call.

     

    Assign contact to speed dial number

    To assign a speed dial number to a contact,follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. If necessary, tap the Keypad tab.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Speed dial setting.
    5. Tap the desired number where the speed dial will be assigned.
    6. Tap the desired contact to assign to the speed dial number.

     

    End call

    To end a call,follow these steps:

    Tap End call.

     

    Hold call

    To put a call on hold, follow these steps:

    Tap the Hold icon.

    To resume, follow these steps:

    Tap the Unhold icon.

     

    Mute and un-mute call

    To turn on mute during a call, follow these steps:

    Tap Mute. A green indicator light turns on.

    To un-mute a call,follow these steps:

    Tap Mute. The green indicator light turns off.

     

    Mute incoming ring

    To mute an incoming call's ring, follow these steps:

    During an incoming ring, press the Volume key up or down.

     

    Use speakerphone

    To turn on the speaker phone, follow these steps:

    Tap Speaker. A green indicator light turns on.

    To turn off the speaker phone, follow these steps:

    Tap Speaker. The green indicator light turns off.

    Caller ID

    T-Mobile Name ID – Turn on / off

    Turn on

    To turn on T-Mobile Name ID,follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap T-Mobile Name ID.
    3. Note: If necessary, follow the prompts to subscribe to T-Mobile Name ID.
    4. Tap Settings.
    5. Tap Add to Contacts to select the check box and enable T-Mobile Name ID.

     

    When Add to Contacts is selected, at the end of a phone call, you will be prompted to add any new telephone numbers to your contacts. Depending on your settings, the prompt will appear on-screen as a pop-up window, inside the notifications area, or simultaneously on-screen and inside the notification area.

    Turn off

    To turn off T-Mobile Name ID,follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap T-Mobile Name ID.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Add to Contacts to clear the check box and disable T-Mobile Name ID.

     

    T-Mobile Name ID – Change settings

    To adjust the T-Mobile Name ID settings, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap T-Mobile Name ID.
    3. Tap Settings.
    4. Tap Prompt mode.
    5. Tap to select one of the following settings which will determine how you are prompted to add new callers to your contacts:
      • Post-call Prompt Only
        • Note: Select this setting to receive a pop-up window at the end of a call.
      • Use Notifications Only
        • Note: Select this setting to receive a message in the notifications area at the end of a phone call. Tap the message to add the phone number.
      • Prompt& Notification
        • Note; Select this setting to receive both a Post-call Prompt and a Notification.
    6. Tap Save.

     

    T-Mobile Name ID – Add contact to phone book

    To add a new phone number to your contacts list, follow these steps:

    Note:The method you use to add a contact depends on the prompt mode you select on the T-Mobile Name ID Settings screen.

    Add a contact at the end of a call

    1. Before ending the call, make note of the caller identification displayed on the screen above the phone number.
    2. Tap End call to end the phone call.
    3. The Contacts Prompt Screen appears briefly.
    4. Note: The Contacts Prompt Screen is only available for a few seconds. For more time to make a selection, adjust your Prompt mode setting to ‘Use Notifications Only’ or ‘Prompt & Notification.’
    5. Tap one of the following options:
      • Add as New Contact
        1. If prompted, tap the desired account where contact will be saved.
        2. Note: If you are not logged into any account, your phone will automatically save the contact to the MobileLife Contacts account.
        3. Tap to enter contact’s name where auto-populated caller identification or the ‘?’ appears.
        4. Tap Save.
      • Add to Existing Contact
        1. Note: Tap this option if the contact’s name is already in the phone book but has called you from a new phone number
        2. If prompted, tap the desired account where contact will be saved.
        3. Note: If you are not logged into any account, your phone will automatically save the contact to the MobileLife Contacts account.
        4. Scroll to and tap the contact you want to add the new phone number to.
        5. Note: You will see two or more tabs. While the new phone number is saved as a separate contact, your phone links these two phone numbers to the same contact listing. Therefore, the new number is always linked to the same contact listing.
        6. Tap the New phone number tab.
        7. Note: The New phone number tab displays in the tab the desired account information that you chose earlier and once tapped, displays the auto-populated caller identification in the Name field.
        8. Tap the Name fields and delete the ‘?’ character or any auto-populated Caller identification name that does not match your contact’s name.
        9. Enter your contact’s name in the Name fields.
        10. Important: You must enter your contact’s name exactly as it is spelled into the Name fields. Otherwise, a new contact will be created. 
        11. Make any desired changes to the information associated with the new telephone number.
        12. Tap Save.
      • Do Not Add

    Add a contact using the Notification screen

    Note: You can also save missed calls using the Notification screen.

    1. End a phone call by tapping End call.
    2. Touch and drag the Status bar down to open the Notification screen.
    3. Tap the Name ID listing with the caller’s name in the notifications area.
    4. Tap one of the following options:
      • Add as New Contact
        1. If prompted, tap the desired account where contact will be saved.
        2. Note: If you are not logged into any account, your phone will automatically save the contact to the MobileLife Contacts account.
        3. Tap to enter contact’s name where auto-populated caller identification or the ‘?’ appears in the Name fields.
        4. Tap Save.
      • Add to Existing Contact
        1. Note: Tap this option if the contact’s name is already in the phone book but has called you from a new phone number
        2. If prompted, tap the desired account where contact will be saved.

    Incoming ID – Turn on /off

    Incoming caller ID shows information about incoming calls on the display screen. It automatically shows the caller's name and phone number if the contact is in the phone book. When the information is not in the phone book, your phone may display the caller’s identification if available with the phone number or else display ‘Unknown caller.’

    Caller ID cannot be turned off.

     

    Outgoing ID – Enable

    To enable outgoing caller ID so the people you call can see your number, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Additional settings.
    5. Tap Caller ID.
    6. Tap Shown umber.

     

    Outgoing ID – Restrict

    To restrict outgoing caller ID so the people you call cannot see your number, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Additional settings.
    5. Tap Caller ID.
    6. Tap Hide number.

     

    Picture ID – Set

    You can assign picture ID to contacts stored in the phone book, but not to those stored on the SIM card.

    To assign a picture to a contact, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap the desired contact.
    3. Tap the Edit icon (pencil).
    4. Tap the Picture icon.
    5. Tap one of the following:
      • Take photo
        1. Frame the subject.
        2. Tap the silver Shutter icon to take the photo.
        3. Tap Save.
        4. If desired, touch and slide the box to adjust image area and scale, tap Save.
        5. Tap Save.
      • Select picture from Gallery
        1. Locate and tap the desired image.
        2. If desired, touch and slide the box to adjust image area and scale, tap Save.
        3. Tap Save.
      • S Memo
        1. Tap the desired picture.
        2. If desired, touch and slide the box to adjust image area and scale, tap Save.
        3. Tap Save.

     

    Ringer ID – Set

    You can assign a ringer ID to contacts stored in the phonebook, but not to those stored on the SIM card.

    To assign a ringer to a contact,follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap the desired contact.
    3. Under Ringtones,tap the Current ringtone.
    4. Tap one of the following options.
      • Default
      • Ringtones
        1. Tap the desired ringtone and tap OK.
      • Go to my files
        1. Navigate to the folder of the desired ringtone.
        2. Note: The external_sd folder contains your SD card (external memory card) files.
        3. Tap the Circle next to the desired ringtone. The circle fills with green.
        4. Tap OK.

    Call forwarding

    Cancel call forwarding

    To turn off or cancel all call forwarding (including voicemail forwarding), follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Call Forwarding.
    5. Tap Voice call.
    6. Tap Always Forward.
    7. Tap Disable.

     

    Forward all calls (unconditional forwarding)

    Call Forwarding Unconditional (CFU) immediately forwards all calls to another phone number without allowing the device to ring.

    To activate unconditional call forwarding, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Call Forwarding.
    5. Tap Voice call.
    6. Tap Always Forward.
    7. Enter the number you want to use for call forwarding.
    8. Tap Enable.

     

    Forward some calls (conditional forwarding)

    Call Forwarding Conditional (CFC) forwards incoming calls to another phone number if you do not or cannot answer them (no reply, busy, unavailable).

    To activate conditional call forwarding, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Call forwarding.
    5. Tap Voice call.
    6. Tap one of the following options:
      • Forward when busy
      • Forward when unanswered
      • Forward when unreachable
    7. Enter the number you would like to use for call forwarding.
    8. Tap Update.

     

    Forward calls to voice mail (conditional forwarding)

    Voicemail forwarding forwards incoming calls to your voice mail so that callers can leave a message.

    To turn on voicemail forwarding, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Call forwarding.
    5. Tap Voice call.
    6. Tap one of the following options:
      • Forward when busy
      • Forward when unanswered
      • Forward when unreachable
    7. Enter +18056377249 to use Forward calls to voicemail.
    8. Tap Update.

    Call settings

    DTMF tones

    Your device can send a number to the network as dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones. DTMF tones are used to communicate with automated systems that require you to type a number such as a code, password, or credit card number.

    Although your phone can use DTMF tones (touch tones), there is no setting to turn them on or off.

    We’re sorry, but changing DTMF tones is not available on your device.

     

    Fixed dialing

    T-Mobile does not support fixed dialing.

    To disable fixed dialing if you have enabled it, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Additional settings.
    5. Tap Fixed dialing numbers.
    6. Tap Disable FDN.
    7. Enter the PIN. The default PIN is 5678.
    8. Tap OK.

     

    Phone line selection – Not supported

    We’re sorry, but this feature is not available on your device.

     

    Volume – In-call

    To raise or lower the in-call volume, follow these steps:

    While on a call, press the top Volume key up or down to raise or lower the in-call volume.

     

    Volume– Ring

    To raise or lower the ringtone volume, follow these steps:

    Press the Volume key up or down to raise or lower the Ringer volume.

    Note: Press the Volume key all the way down to activate Vibrate mode.

    Call timer / call log

    Reset call log

    To reset all call logs, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap the Call log tab.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Delete.
    5. Tap the Select all check box to select all call log entrees.
    6. Tap the Check mark icon.
    7. Tap OK.

     

    To reset individual call logs:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap the Call log tab.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Delete.
    5. Tap to select the check box for each call log to be deleted.
    6. Tap the Checkmark icon.
    7. Tap OK.

     

    Reset timer

    Call timers approximate the amount of time you have spent on phone calls. They do not accurately show how much time T-Mobile bills. T-Mobile charges for connected calls and rounds up to the nearest minute. Call timers count all calls in seconds, regardless of whether or not they connect.

    To reset call timers, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Tap the Call log tab.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Call duration.
    5. Tap the Menu key.
    6. Tap Reset.
    7. The call timers are now reset.

     

    View timer

    Call timers approximate the amount of time you have spent on phone calls. They do not accurately show how much time T-Mobile bills. T-Mobile charges for connected calls and rounds up to the nearest minute. Call timers count all calls in seconds, regardless of whether or not they connect.

    Call waiting

    Turn on / off

    To turn on call waiting, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Additional settings.
    5. Tap Call waiting to select the check box and enable.

     

    To turn off call waiting, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Additional settings.
    5. Tap Call waiting to clear the check box and disable.

     

    Use

    To use call waiting when you hear the tone alerting you to a new incoming call, follow these steps:

    1. Touch and drag the green Phone icon to the right to answer the new call.
    2. To put original caller on hold, tap Putting [XX] on hold.
    3. Note:If desired, tap End call with [XX] to end the call with the original caller.
    4. To end the call with the new caller, tap End call.
    5. To switch between calls, tap Swap.
    6. Tap Merge to begin a conference call.

    Conference calling

    Have private conversation

    To speak privately with one caller in a conference call and put the other callers on hold, follow these steps:

    1. While on a conference call, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Manage conference call.
    3. Tap the Split icon to the left of the caller you want to have the private conversation with.
    4. Tap Swap to have a private conversation with the other caller.
    5. Tap Merge to resume the conference call.

     

    Start conference call

    To add callers to the conference call, follow these steps:

    1. While on a call, tap Add call.
    2. Use the keypad to enter the phone number.
    3. Tap the green Phone icon to place the call.
    4. Tap Merge to start the conference call.

    Voice commands

    Assign a voice name to a contact – Not supported

    Dial using voice name

    To use voice-activated dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Voice Talk.
    3. Read the Samsung Disclaimer and tap Confirm.
    4. Read Vlingo Terms of Service and tap Agree.
    5. Tap Skip.
    6. Note:Tap Next to view tutorial.
    7. Tap Call.
    8. Speak Call+ [Name of Contact].
    9. Your call is automatically placed.
    10. Note:If the contact has more than one phone number, follow the screen instructions to call the desired number.
    11. Note:If necessary, re-speak your voice call.

    Voicemail

    Call voicemail

    To retrieve voicemail messages using the keyboard, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Phone icon.
    2. Touch and hold 1, or dial 123 and tap the green Phone icon, or tap the Voicemail icon at bottom-left to call voicemail.

     

    To retrieve voicemail messages via the device menu, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. Note:If necessary, tap Next and then Done.
    4. Tap the Menu key.
    5. Tap Call voicemail.

     

    Set voicemail number

    To set the voicemail server number on your device, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap Voicemail.
    5. Tap Voicemail number.
    6. Enter the desired number and tap OK.
    7. Note:The Voicemail service number is 1-805-637-7243. This is the number your phone calls to access voicemail.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Access

    To access Visual Voicemail, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail. to access.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Add contact

    To add a contact from a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. If necessary, tap the Messages tab.
    4. Touch and hold the desired phone number.
    5. Tap Add To Contacts.
    6. Tap the Add icon.
    7. If prompted, tap the desired account location where the contact will be saved.
    8. Otherwise, tap the Drop-Down Arrow below Cancel and tap to select the account location where contact will be saved.
    9. Tap the Name field and enter the contact name.
    10. Enter any other desired information and tap Save.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Change greeting

    To change the Visual Voicemail greeting, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. Tap the Greetings tab.

     

    To change the greeting to another existing greeting:

    1. Tap the existing greeting.
    2. Tap the Mark Default greeting check box to select and mark message as default greeting.

     

    To record a new greeting:

    1. Tap Record a new greeting.
    2. Note:If necessary, delete an existing greeting first to make room for the new greeting
    3. Tap the blue record icon to record your greeting.
    4. Tap the red stop icon to stop recording.
    5. If desired, tap the Play icon to listen to the greeting.
    6. Tap Next.
    7. Enter a name for your greeting.
    8. If desired, tap the Check box to select and mark the greeting as default greeting.
    9. Tap Next.

     

     

    Visual Voicemail – Change password

    To change the Visual Voicemail password, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Settings.
    5. Tap Change PIN.
    6. Enter the current PIN.
    7. Enter the new PIN, then enter again to confirm.
    8. Tap OK.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Delete voicemail

    To delete a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. If necessary, tap the Messages tab.
    4. Tap the desired voicemail.
    5. Tap the Delete icon.
    6. Tap OK.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Listen to new message

    To listen to a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. If necessary, tap the Messages tab.
    4. Tap the desired message.
    5. Tap the Play icon.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Reply

    To reply to a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. If necessary tap the Messages tab.
    4. Tap the desired message.
    5. Tap the Phone icon to return the call.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Save

    To save a Visual Voicemail message, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual voicemail.
    3. If necessary, tap the Messages tab.
    4. Touch and hold on the desired message.
    5. Tap Copy to.
    6. Enter a File name.
    7. Tap Save.
    8. Note:Unless you change the Save in Directory setting, the message is stored in your internal phone memory underneath the folders in the My files application.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Set up

    To set up Visual Voicemail, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual Voicemail.
    3. Tap Next to enable Visual Voicemail and activate the feature for the first time.
    4. Tap Done.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Synchronize

    To manually synchronize Visual Voicemail messages (new messages are downloaded and deleted messages are removed), follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual Voicemail.
    3. If necessary, tap the Messages tab.
    4. Tap the Menu key.
    5. Tap Sync Now.

     

    Visual Voicemail – Turn on / turnoff – Not supported

    Visual Voicemail – Turn on / off roaming

    To turn on Visual Voicemail roaming, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual Voicemail.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Settings.
    5. Tap to select the International Roaming check box to enable International Roaming.

     

    To turn off Visual Voicemail roaming, follow these steps:

    1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
    2. Tap Visual Voicemail.
    3. Tap the Menu key.
    4. Tap Settings.
    5. Tap to clear the International Roaming check box to disable International Roaming.
