Airplane mode

How to turn on or turn off airplane mode

 

Airplane mode turns off the wireless radio. This allows you to use programs while travelling on an airplane, but not make or receive calls. To turn on airplane mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Home key.
  2. Scroll to and select Comm Manager.
  3. Select Airplane Mode.


If Airplane Mode was previously turned off, it is now on.

How to change or adjust the display option for brightness

 

To raise or lower the screen brightness, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More.
  4. Scroll to and select Power.
  5. Select Power Management.
  6. Scroll to and select Backlight brightness.
  7. Scroll to a brightness level of 1, 2, 3, or 4.
  8. Select Done.

How to change, increase, or decrease the backlight duration

 

To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More.
  4. Scroll to and select Power.
  5. Select Power Management.
  6. Scroll to and select one of the following:
    • Backlight time out on battery to change the backlight duration when the device is on battery power only.
    • Select from the following (in seconds):
      • 5
      • 10
      • 15
      • 30
      • 60
      • Never
    • Note
    • : Lower durations save battery power.
    • Backlight time out on AC to change the backlight duration when the device is plugged in to external power.

Change band

How to change the frequency of the band selection

 

When traveling outside of North America, your device must use the 900 MHz/1800 MHz GSM frequency band to get a signal from an international carrier. When the device is turned off and then back on, band selection is automatic. If automatic band selection fails, follow these steps to manually change the band selection:

 

    1. Press and hold the Home key.
    2. Scroll to and select Comm Manager.
    3. Select Settings.
    4. Select Phone.
    5. Scroll to and select Band Select.
    6. Scroll to and select Band Type.
    7. Scroll to and select from the following:
      • Auto
      • Euro band
      • US band
      • Japan band

 

  1. Select Done.

 

If you are inside T-Mobile's coverage area and wish to change between 2G and 3G networks, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Select Settings, Phone.
  3. Select Band.
  4. Scroll to and select Network Type.
  5. Under Network Type, scroll left or right to select one of the following options:
    • Auto (recommended for 3G)
    • GSM (recommended for 2G)
    • WCDMA
  6. Select Done.

DTMF tones

It is not possible to turn off DTMF tones (touch tones)

 

Your phone can send a number to the network as dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones. DTMF tones are used to communicate with automated systems that require you to enter a number such as a code, password, or credit card number. It is not possible to turn off DTMF tones on this phone.

Fixed dialing

How to disable fixed dialing

 

T-Mobile does not support fixed dialing. To disable fixed dialing if you have enabled it, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Scroll to and select More.
  5. Scroll to and select Fixed Dialing.
  6. Select Enable Fixed Dialing to clear the check box.
  7. If asked for PIN2, enter 5678 as the default PIN2.
  8. Select Done.

To manually select the wireless network the device connects to, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.

  8. Select Done.

 

Note: The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

Master Reset

 

How to perform a master reset

 

A hard reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up all necessary data on the internal memory.
  2. From the Home screen, select Start.
  3. Select Device Management.
  4. Select Clear Storage.
  5. Enter “1234”.
  6. Select YES.

    *  The device will restart.

 

Master Reset - hardware buttons

 

If the device is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can reset it using  external buttons. To perform a master reset on the device using external  buttons, follow these steps:

 

  1. Attempt to perform a master reset using the device menu before using the hardware keys.
  2. If the device is on, remove the battery to turn it off,  and re-insert the battery.
    • Important: When performing a master reset with hardware  buttons, you must disconnect the device from a charging source as this continues  to power the device and you can only initiate a master reset with the hardware  buttons when the device is completely turned off.
  3. Press and hold the Volume up key and then press the  End/Power key (red) for two  seconds.

  4. When you see a message that starts with 'This operation will delete…'.  release the keys and press the Send key.

  5. Press the Send key again to restart the device.

  6. Wait several minutes for the hard reset to complete.

How to change the default SIM PIN code

 

To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Select More.
  4. Select Security.
  5. Scroll to and select Enable SIM PIN.
  6. Enter the current PIN (default is 1234).
  7. Select Done.
  8. Scroll to and select Change SIM PIN.
  9.   Enter the old PIN (default is 1234).
  10. Scroll to New PIN.
  11. Enter your new PIN.
  12. Scroll to Confirm new PIN.
  13. Re-enter your new PIN.
  14. Select Done.

Manual keypad lock

 

To lock the keypad: 

 

From the Home screen, press and hold the Star (*) key.

 

To unlock the keypad: 

 

Select Unlock.

Press the Star (*) key.

 

Automatic keypad lock

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.

  6. Select the Prompt if device unused for check box.

The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being used in other devices. When you enable the SIM PIN code, the device prompts you to enter the code after turning it on. To turn on or turn off the SIM card lock, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Select More.
  4. Scroll to and select Security.
  5. Scroll to and select Enable SIM PIN.
  6. Enter the PIN. Default is 1234.

 

Unlock

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select Security.
  4. Scroll to and select Disable SIM PIN.
  5. Enter the PIN. Default is 1234.

If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, the device blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

 

  1. Contact us  to request your PUK code.
  2. Enter PUK CODE.
  3. Select OK.
  4. Enter a new four to eight digit PIN.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Re-enter the new PIN.
  7. Select OK.

  1. With the front cover closed, press down in the center of the back cover and slide it from the device.
