How to change or adjust the display option for brightness

 

To raise or lower the screen brightness, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Navigation Wheel up to scroll to Manage Connections.
  2. Scroll right to Manage Battery.
  3. Press the Center Select key.
  4. Scroll down to and select Backlight Brightness.

  5. Select a backlight setting:
    • Low
    • Medium
    • High
    • Very High

Duration

 

How to change, increase, or decrease the backlight duration

 

To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press the Navigation Wheel up to scroll to Manage Connections.
  2. Scroll right to Manage Battery.
  3. Press the Center Select key.

  4. Scroll down to and select one of the following:
    • Backlight time out on battery: to set the backlight duration when the device is not plugged in.
    • Backlight time out on AC: to set the backlight duration when the device is plugged in.
  5. Select a time period for the backlight to stay on.
  6. Select Done.

The first time you turn on your phone, a welcome screen appears with the options to Play Video Introduction, Help me get started, and Start using the phone.

 

  • From the welcome screen, select Play Video introduction to see an overview of the features available on your phone.

  • Turn off your phone and then back on again by pressing the Power key on top of your phone. When your phone finishes turning on, the Get Started menu appears.

    Note: You do not see this help option when the phone starts if you have previously chosen to stop help from displaying.

How to check the software (ROM) version

 

To find the software (ROM) version, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More….

  5. Scroll to and select Device Information.
  6. Select Version.
  7. View the Rom version to see the software version of your device.

 

Task Manager

 

  To close running applications using the Task Manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any screen, press and hold the Home key.
  2. Scroll to and select Task Manager.
  3. Select Menu.
  4. Scroll to and select End All Tasks.
  5. Select Yes to confirm.

Network

Browser message (WAP Push)

WAP push messages (browser messages) are not supported

Change band - Not supported

Changing the frequency of the band selection is not supported

 

When travelling outside of North America, your device must use the 900 MHz/1800 MHz GSM frequency band to get a signal from an international carrier. Band selection is automatic. If the device fails to change its band selection, turn it off and then back on.

 

Manual network selection

 

How to perform a manual network selection to register on a network

 

Related error: 'Network unavailable'

 

To manually select the wireless network the device connects to, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Select Phone.

  5. Scroll to Network Selection.
  6. Scroll right to Manual.
  7. Select Menu.
  8. Select Find a New Network.
  9. Scroll to and select the desired network.
  10. Select Done, Done, and then Done..

 

Note: The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

Reset

Master Reset

 

How to perform a master reset

 

A hard reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available). To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up all necessary data on the internal memory. See synchronization procedures if you need more information.
  2. From the Home screen, select Start.
  3. Scroll to and select Device Management.
  4. Select Clear Storage.
  5. Enter 1234.
  6. Select YES.

 

Soft Reset

 

How to perform a soft reset

 

A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs. This can help when the device is running slower than normal or not performing properly. No data will be lost and settings will remain the same. To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Save any files that are open.
  2. Press and hold the Power key on top of your device to turn it off.
  3. Press and hold the Power key again to turn back on.

Change - SIM PIN code

 

How to change the default SIM PIN code

 

You must turn on the SIM PIN before changing it. To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More.

  5. Scroll to and select Change SIM PIN.
  6. In the Old PIN field, enter the current SIM PIN.
    • Note: The default PIN is 1234.
  7. Scroll down to New PIN.
  8. Enter the new SIM PIN.
  9. Scroll down to Confirm new PIN.
  10. Enter the new SIM PIN.
  11. Select Done.

 

Change - Security code

 

Changing the default security code is not supported

Enable / Disable SIM PIN Code

 

How to turn on or turn off the SIM PIN code

 

The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being used in other handsets. When you enable the SIM PIN code, the handset prompts you to enter the code after turning it on. To turn on or turn off the SIM card lock, follow these steps:

 

To lock

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More.

  5. Scroll to and select Enable SIM PIN.
  6. Enter the SIM PIN code. The default is 1234.
  7. Select Done.

 

To unlock

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More.
  4. Select Security.
  5. Scroll to and select Disable SIM PIN.
  6. Enter the SIM PIN code. The default is 1234.
  7. Select Done.

 

Enable / Disable phone lock

 

How to turn on or turn off the phone lock

 

Phone lock causes the handset to lock when you turn it off. When you turn the handset back on, you must enter a password. To turn on or turn off the phone lock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select More.

  5. Select Device Lock.
  6. Select the check box for Prompt if device unused for.
  7. Scroll down to the minutes.
  8. Scroll left or right to select:
    • 1 Minute
    • 5 Minutes

    • 1.5 Hours
    • 2 Hours
    • 12 Hours
    • 24 Hours
  9. Scroll down to Password type.
  10. Scroll left or right to select Simple PIN or Strong alphanumeric.
  11. Scroll down to Password.
  12. Enter your password.
  13. Scroll down to Confirm password.
  14. Enter your password again.
  15. Select Done.
  16. Select Yes to confirm.

 

Lock - Unlock keypad

 

How to lock and unlock the keypad

 

Locking the keypad protects against accidental key presses. No password is required to unlock the keypad. To lock and unlock the keypad, follow these steps:

 

To lock

 

  1. Slide the device closed.
  2. Wait a few seconds.

 

To unlock

 

  1. Select Unlock.
  2. Press the Home key.

 

Unblock - PIN (PUK Code)

 

How to enter a PUK code

If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, the device blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

 

  1. Contact us to request your PUK code.
  2. Enter the PUK.
  3. Select OK.
  4. Enter a PIN of your choice.
  5. Select OK.
  6. When the 'Confirm New PIN' message displays, enter the PIN code again.
  7. Select OK.

 

Unblock - SIM (Mobile Device unlock)

 

How to enter a Mobile Device unlock code

  • 'Please Wait to Enter Special Code'

 

The Mobile Device unlock code allows the handset to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier. To enter the Mobile Device unlock code, follow these steps:

 

Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The handset locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

 

  1. Enter *#06# to verify the IMEI.
  2. Submit a new SIM Unlock request in Remedy.
  3. Insert the new SIM card into the device.
  4. Turn off the device.
  5. Turn it on again.
  6. Enter the unlock code.

To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select Clock & Alarm.

  5. In the Alarm Time field, enter the time you want the alarm to sound.
  6. Scroll down and select Alarm.
  7. Scroll to a setting:
    • Every day
    • Weekdays
    • Weekend
    • Off
  8. Select Done.
  9. Select Alarm sound, Alarm type, and Alarm volume as desired.
  10. Select Done.

 

Auto-update (NITZ)

 

How to turn on or turn off automatic update of time and date (NITZ)

 

Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time while the handset turns on. To turn on or turn off NITZ, follow these steps:

 

Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your device, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

 

  1. From the Home screen, select Start.
  2. Scroll to and select Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select Clock & Alarm.
