Balance transfer overview

A balance transfer allows you to move the EIP balance from one account to another when the mobile number was transferred. The transfer of the balance follows the mobile number and both parties must consent to the transfer. Some instances where a balance might be completed include:

 

  • You are consolidating multiple accounts under your name or Social Security number and wish move your EIP balances to the new account.
  • You recently completed a Change of Responsibility and the person taking over the account has agreed to accept the EIP balance.
  • An Authorized user requests to continue service with the same mobile number and device from a deceased customer's account.

 

Eligibility and restrictions

  • Only Primary Account Holders and Authorized Users are eligible to request EIP balances transfers.
  • EIP balances cannot be transferred between lines on the same account. It must be from one account to another.
  • If you have moved a mobile number from one account to another via a Change Of Responsibility or other move, you have 60 days to move that EIP balance from the old account to the new account.
  • Lines must remain active on the new account and keep the same mobile number listed on the EIP from the original account.
  • Past due delinquent accounts and write-off accounts are not eligible to initiate or receive EIP balance transfers.
  • JUMP! On Demand leases and Payment Option Installment Plans (POIPs) cannot be transferred. See JUMP! On Demand for details.

This is when a EIP balance that is associated with a mobile number is moved from one account to another. The transfer follows the mobile number.

 

Am I eligible for a balance transfer?

The account receiving the transfer must be eligible for EIP and be eligible to receive the transfer. Your T-Mobile Customer Care or Retail Expert can look up your account and let you know if you qualify to initiate or receive a balance transfer.
