Note: The BlackBerry Curve 8520 does not contain an embedded GPS radio. In order to use a GPS mapping application on this device, you will need to obtain a separate GPS puck and connect it to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth. To turn on or turn off the Global Positioning System (GPS), follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Scroll to and select the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll to and select the Options icon.
  4. Scroll to and select Advanced Options.
  5. Scroll to and select GPS.
  6. Scroll to GPS Data Source and choose your device.
  7. Scroll to and select GPS Services.
  8. Scroll to and select Location On or Location Off.

    Note: If Wi-Fi is off, scroll to and select Turn Wi-Fi on.
  6. Scroll to and select the desired network.
  7. If required, enter a key or password.
  8. Scroll to and select Connect.
    Note: Many public Wi-Fi networks require a log in. If required, scroll to and select Wi-Fi Hotspot Login. This launches a Web page to log in to the Wi-Fi provider's network.
  9. Scroll to and select Next.
  10. Scroll to and select Finish.

GSM.png

You are connected to the T-Mobile network, but not to the BlackBerry network.

 

You can use the phone and send and receive text messages and picture messages.

SOS.png

You are not connected to the T-Mobile network but have registered on another carrier's network.

You can only make emergency calls.

OFF.png

Your connection to the wireless network is turned off.

X.png

You are not in a wireless coverage area.

UMA.png

You are connected to UMA for phone calls and connected to the BlackBerry network through either Wi-Fi only or UMA.

You can use the phone, send and receive e-mail messages, PIN messages, text messages, picture messages, and use the browser using UMA instead of a mobile network connection.
