APN & data settings

These settings are automatically set to the correct values with the Carrier Update when a T-Mobile SIM is inserted and cannot be changed. To ensure you have the correct settings, reset your network settings.

Manual network selection

The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Carrier. If the Carrier option does not appear with a T-Mobile SIM card in the device, it may indicate the device was not correctly unlocked or jailbroken.
  3. Slide the Automatic slider to the off position to start scanning for networks.
  4. Select desired carrier.

Switch 2G / 4G

  1. From any Home screen, tap Settings > Cellular or Cellular Data > Cellular Data Options.
  2. Follow the steps below depending on your device:
    • iPhone 6 or later: Tap Enable LTE and choose from the following:
      • Off
      • Voice & Data (for VoLTE)
      • Data Only

      • LTE or 4G
      • 3G
      • 2G

Turn on / off airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off wireless connections. This allows app and menu use, but prevents voice or Internet use.

  1. From any screen, access the Control Center:
    • iPhone X: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
    • iPhone 8 and earlier: Slide your finger up from the bottom of the screen. If a small arrow appears, slide your finger up again.
  2. Tap the Airplane Mode icon.
