Device tutorials and user guide

No matter what you want to do with your new device, we have plenty of resources available to help you get on your way.



First time use

When you first turn on your new device, you might see a setup wizard to help get you started. Take a look at the steps below to walk through the setup process.


  1. Make sure the battery and SIM card are inserted.
  2. At the Welcome screen, select your language and tap Next.
  3. Select or set up a Wi-Fi network. If a Wi-Fi network is not available, tap Skip.
  4. Sign in or create a new Google account.
  5. Tap Accept to agree to Google's Terms of Service.
  6. Choose to restore your device from a previous backup or set up as a new device.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. To protect your phone, tap SET SCREEN LOCK NOW.
  9. Select from the following:
    • Pattern
    • PIN
    • Password
  10. Enter your pattern, PIN or password.
  11. Tap Next.
  12. Confirm your patter, PIN or password.
  13. Select from the following notification security:
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all
  14. Tap Next.
  15. View Google's services, tap More to scroll down.
  16. Tap Next.
  17. Check or Un-check to allow T-Mobile to collect Diagnostic data.
  18. Tap Next.
  19. Tap Accept / Decline to T-Mobile's Connection Assistant.
  20. Tap Accept / Decline to T-Mobile's special offers.
  21. Your device is now ready for use.


Transferring data

Sure it's time to say goodbye to your old device, but before you do, don't forget to transfer your pictures, videos, and anything else you might want to keep over to your new device. Take a look at the Set up a new mobile device page
