Learn about call functions on the T-Mobile G1.

 

 

Call basics

Answer call

To answer an incoming call, press the green Send key.

 

Block incoming calls

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
  2. Tap the contact that you want to block.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Tap Edit contact.
  5. Touch and slide the menu upward.
  6. Tap the Incoming calls check box to send calls directly to voicemail.
  7. Tap Done.

 

Dial

Using the keypad

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Dialer icon.
  2. Tap the on-screen numbers to enter a phone number.
  3. Press the green Send key.

 

Using the phone book

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
    Note:
    To find a contact quickly, open the keyboard and start entering the contact name to narrow your options.
    • Tap the contact that you want to call.
    • Press the green Send key.

     

    Using speed dial

    We're sorry, but this is not an available feature on your particular device model.

     

    End call

    To end a call, press the red End key.

     

    Hold call

    To put a call on hold and return to it, follow these steps:

     

    To hold

    1. While on a call, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Hold.

     

    To return

    1. While on hold, press the Menu key
    2. Tap Hold to return to the call.

     

    Mute call

    To turn on or turn off mute during a call, follow these steps:

     

    To mute

    1. While on a call, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Mute.

     

    To unmute

    1. While muting, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Mute to unmute.

     

    Mute incoming ringtone

    To mute the ringtone or an incoming call, press the Volume key on the left side of the device.

     

    Speakerphone

    1. While on a call press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Speaker to turn on or off.

     

     

    Caller ID

    Incoming ID

    The device displays the caller’s name and number if the caller’s information is stored in the contact list. When the caller ID information is not in the contact list, the device displays the caller’s number.

     

    Outgoing ID - enable

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Additional call settings.
    5. Tap Caller ID.
    6. Tap Show number.

     

    Outgoing - ID restrict

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Additional call settings.
    5. Tap Caller ID.
    6. Tap Hide number.

     

    Picture ID - set

    You can assign picture ID to contacts stored in the phone book, but not to those stored on the SIM card. To assign a picture to a contact, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
    2. Tap the contact that you want to change.
    3. Press the Menu key.
    4. Tap Edit contact.
    5. Tap the picture icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
    6. Tap the desired picture.
    7. Touch and drag the square to the location you want to crop.
    8. Touch and hold the edge of the square to resize it.
    9. Tap Save.
    10. Press the Menu key.
    11. Tap Done.

     

    Ringer ID - set

    You can assign ringer ID to contacts stored in the phone book, but not to those stored on the SIM card. To assign a ringer to a contact, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts.
    2. Tap the contact that you want to change.
    3. Press the Menu key.
    4. Tap Edit contact.
    5. Touch and slide the menu upward.
    6. Tap Ringtone.
    7. Tap the desired ringtone.
    8. Tap OK.
    9. Tap Done.

     

     

    Call forwarding

    Cancel call forwarding

    Voicemail forwarding forwards incoming calls to your voicemail so that callers can leave a message. To activate voicemail forwarding, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Call forwarding.
    5. Tap Always forward.
    6. Tap Disable.

     

    Forward all calls (unconditional forwarding)

    Call Forwarding Unconditional (CFU) immediately forwards all calls to another phone  number without allowing the device to ring. To activate unconditional call forwarding, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Call forwarding.
    5. Tap Always forward.
    6. If desired, tap the call forwarding number.
    7. Enter a new forwarding number.
    8. Tap Enable.

    Note: The number for voicemail forwarding is +18056377249.

     

    Forward some calls (conditional forwarding)

    Call Forwarding Conditional (CFC) forwards incoming calls to another phone number if you do not or cannot answer them. To activate conditional call forwarding, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Call forwarding.
    5. Tap a kind of forwarding:
      • Forward when busy
      • Forward when unanswered
      • Forward when unreachable
    6. If desired, tap the call forwarding number.
    7. Enter a new forwarding number.
    8. Tap Update.

    Note: The number for voicemail forwarding is +18056377249.

     

     

    Call settings

    DTMF tones

    Your device can send a number to the network as dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones. DTMF tones are used to communicate with automated systems that require you to type a number such as a code, password, or credit card number.

     

    DTMF tones are turned on by default. You cannot turn off DTMF tones.

     

    Fixed dialing

    T-Mobile does not support fixed dialing. To disable fixed dialing if you have enabled it, follow these steps:

     

    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Call settings.
    4. Tap Fixed dialing numbers.
    5. Tap Disable FDN.
    6. Tap the PIN2 field to display the onscreen keyboard.
    7. Enter the PIN2.
      Note:
      The default PIN2 is 5678.
      • Tap OK

       

      Phone line selection

      We’re sorry, but this is not an available feature on your particular phone model.

       

      Call volume

      To raise or lower the volume of the earpiece, press the Volume keys on the side of the device during a call.

       

      Ring volume

      To raise or lower the ringtone volume, follow these steps:

       

      Mute the volume

      1. From the Home screen, press and hold the red End key.
      2. Tap Silent mode to turn the ringtone on or off.

       

      Adjust volume using shortcut keys

      Press the + or – Volume keys on the side of the device.

       

      Adjust volume from the menu

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Sound & display.
      4. Tap Ringer volume.
      5. Touch and slide the ringer volume left or right.
      6. If desired, tap Use incoming call volume for notifications to select or clear the check box.
      7. Tap OK.

       

       

      Call timer (call log)

      Reset timer

      Call timers approximate the time you have used on device calls. To reset call timers, follow these steps:

       

      Note: Call timers do not accurately show how much time T-Mobile bills. T-Mobile charges for connected calls and rounds up to the nearest minute. Call timers count all calls regardless if they connect and count in seconds.

       

      1. From the Home screen, tap the Dialer icon.
      2. Tap the Call log tab.
      3. Press the Menu key.
      4. Select Clear Call Log.

       

      View timer

      Call timers approximate the time you have used on device calls. To view call timers, follow these steps:

       

      Note: Call timers do not accurately show how much time T-Mobile bills. T-Mobile charges for connected calls and rounds up to the nearest minute. Call timers count all calls regardless if they connect and count in seconds.

       

      1. From the Home screen, tap the Dialer icon.
      2. Tap the Call log tab.
      3. View call times on the right side of the screen.

       

       

      Call waiting

      Turn on / off

      While on a call, call waiting alerts you of new incoming calls and allows you to answer them without hanging up. To turn on or turn off call waiting, follow these steps:

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Call settings.
      4. Tap Additional call settings.
      5. Tap Call waiting to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the check box.

       

      Use

      While on a call, call waiting alerts you of new incoming calls and allows you to answer them without hanging up. When you hear the tone alerting you to a new incoming call, follow these steps:

      1. Press the green Send key to answer the new call and place the original call on hold.
      2. To switch between calls, press the Menu key and tap Switch calls.
      3. To join the two calls, press the Menu key and tap Merge calls.

       

       

      Conference calls

      Have private conversation

      To speak privately with one caller in a conference call and put the other callers on hold, follow these steps:

       

      1. While on a conference call, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Manage conference call.
      3. Tap the green arrow to the right of the contact that you want to have a private conversation with.
      4. To end the private conversation, press the Menu key, and tap Merge calls.

       

      Start conference call

      Place the first call before using call conferencing. To add additional callers to the conference, follow these steps:

       

      1. While on a call, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Add call.
      3. Perform one of the following actions:
        • Enter a new phone number.
        • Tap the Contacts tab, and then tap the desired contact.
      4. Press the green Send key.
      5. Press the Menu key.
      6. Tap Merge calls.
      7. Repeat steps 3-6 to add additional callers. There can be a total of six callers.

       

       

      Voice commands

      Assign a voice name to a contact

      Dial using voice name

      To use voice-activated dialing to call a contact, follow these steps:

      1. From the Home screen, tap the Applications button.
      2. Tap the Voice dialer icon.
      3. Wait for the tone.
      4. Say Call [contact name].
      5. Tap OK to call the contact or Cancel to try again.
        Note:
        You can also say Call voicemail to call voicemail or Redial to dial the last outgoing call.

      Call voicemail

      To retrieve voicemail messages, follow these steps:

       

      Using dialing shortcuts

      1. From the Home screen, tap the Dialer icon.
      2. Touch and hold the 1 key.

       

      Using the device menu

      1. From the Home screen, touch and drag the top of the screen down to display the notifications window.
      2. Tap the voicemail notification.
        The device calls your voicemail box.

       

      Set up voicemail for the first time

      1. Dial 123.
      2. Press Send.
      3. Enter the last 4 digits of your mobile number as your voicemail password.
      4. Follow the tutorial to set up your voicemail password and greeting.

      Note: If you decline to set up the voicemail password and/or greeting, the tutorial plays each time until you set up both the password and greeting. Therefore, it is optimal to activate both features during initial setup.

       

      Set voicemail number

      1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
      2. Tap Settings.
      3. Tap Call settings.
      4. Tap Voicemail.
      5. Tap the voicemail number.
      6. Enter the new number.
        Note: The default
        voicemail number is +18056377243
      7. Tap OK.
