Learn how to master reset the Apple Watch series 3 using the menu or hardware keys.

Master reset from settings menu

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail.

  1. The recommended way to perform a master reset is to unpair the device from your iPhone.
  2. If your iPhone is not available, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.
  3. If your Watch has a rate plan connected to an eSIM, choose to keep or remove the plan and eSIM information.
  4. Tap Erase All.

Soft reset with hardware keys

A soft reset is a simulated battery removal. Use a soft reset to power a device off when the screen is frozen or unresponsive and the device has an internal battery that can't be removed. It doesn't cause personal data loss on the device.

To force restart your Apple Watch, press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.
