Backlight

Brightness

To raise or lower the screen brightness, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen Display.
  5. Scroll to Backlight, tap Backlight Brightness, and select a brightness level.
  6. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  7. Select Duration

 

To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen Display.
  5. Scroll to Backlight, tap Backlight Timeout, and select a timeout duration.
  6. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.

  5. View the IMEI number.

 

Software version

To find the software version on your phone, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, press and hold the Alt key while entering the letters ESCR.
    Note: The 'Help Me!' screen displays.

Device login

A BlackBerry ID account allows you to access BlackBerry App World, BlackBerry Protect, and other sites, services, and apps. It also functions as a single, master key for your BlackBerry phone.

 

Create and log in to new BlackBerry ID account

To create and log in to a new BlackBerry ID account, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Tap BlackBerry ID.
  5. Tap the BlackBerry ID Username field and enter the email address of an existing email account you wish to link to your new BlackBerry ID.
  6. Tap the BlackBerry ID Password field and enter a password for your new BlackBerry ID account.
  7. Tap Create New.
  8. Read the BlackBerry Membership Terms and Conditions.
  9. Scroll down and tap I Agree.
  10. Enter your First Name and Last Name.
  11. If desired, enter a unique Screen Name.
  12. If desired, change your Username.
  13. If desired, change your Password.
  14. Re-enter your password to confirm.
  15. Create a Password Recovery Question.
  16. Enter the Answer to the Password Recovery Question.
  17. Tap Submit.

 

Log in to existing BlackBerry ID account

To log in to an existing BlackBerry ID account, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Tap BlackBerry ID.
  5. Enter your BlackBerry ID Username.
  6. Enter your BlackBerry ID Password.
  7. Tap Sign In.
  8. View the information about your BlackBerry ID and your phone.
  9. Tap Continue.

Network

Turn on / off airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off all wireless radio connections. This allows you to use applications while traveling on an airplane, but not make or receive calls.

 

To turn on airplane mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. Tap the Status bar at the top of the Home screen.
  2. Under Manage Connections, tap All Off.

 

To turn off airplane mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. Tap the Status bar at the top of the Home screen.
  2. Under Manage Connections, tap Restore.

 

Turn on / off Browser message (WAP Push)

WAP push messages (browser messages) allow you to download ringtones, wallpaper, and other content.

 

To turn on or off WAP push messages, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Advanced System Settings.
  5. Tap Browser Push.
  6. Tap to select (enable) or clear (disable) the following check boxes:
    • Enable Push
    • Enable MDS Push
    • Enable WAP Push
    • Allow WAP Push Applications
  7. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Change band

To change the band selection, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Networks and Connections.
  4. Tap Mobile Network.
  5. Tap Network Mode.
  6. Select one of the following options:
    • 2G: use only 2G connection speed.
    • 3G/4G & 2G: automatically switch between connection speeds depending on the quality of the connection.

 

Turn on / off data roaming

To turn on or turn off data roaming, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Networks and Connections.
  4. Tap Mobile Network.
  5. Tap While Roaming.
  6. Select one of the following options:
    • On
    • Off
    • Prompt

 

Perform manual network selection

To manually select the wireless network the phone connects to, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Networks and Connections.
  4. Tap Mobile Network.
  5. Tap Network Selection Mode.
  6. Tap Manual.
  7. The phone will scan for available networks.
  8. Scroll to and tap the desired network.

 

Your phone detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

Reset

Back up device and memory card files to computer before reset

The BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer makes it easy to back up the files in your phone’s internal memory and in the phone’s memory card (if installed). To use the BlackBerry Desktop Software you first must install it on your computer (click here for Macintosh version).

 

To copy files from the phone to a computer using a USB cable once the BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed on your computer, follow these steps:

 

On a Macintosh computer

 

  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.
  2. When the main BlackBerry Desktop Software window opens, connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  3. Click the Device drop-down menu and click Back Up.
  4. If desired, click Selected data and clear any check boxes you don’t want to back up.
  5. Click Back Up to create a single backup file that can be used later to restore your phone.

 

On a Windows computer

 

  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.
  2. When the main BlackBerry Desktop Software window opens, connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  3. On your phone, tap USB Drive in the pop-up window that will appear.
  4. On a Windows computer, a “Removable Disk” window may appear on the screen.
  5. To synchronize files using the BlackBerry Desktop Software, scroll to and click Take no action.
  6. Click OK.

  7. On the left side of the main “BlackBerry Desktop Software” window, click the Device drop-down menu and then click Back up.

  8. If desired, change the backup type and whether media files saved on built-in storage will be included in the back up.
  9. Click Back up to create a single backup file that can be used later to restore your phone.

  10. When the backup is finished, click Close.

 

Perform security wipe

A security wipe restores the original factory settings and will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available) unless specifically enabled.

 

To perform a security wipe, follow these steps.

 

Warning: You cannot stop the security wipe process after you start it. If you interrupt the reset process (by removing the battery), the reset process will continue after the device restarts.

 

Note: After performing a security wipe you must re-link to any Internet email accounts, such as Yahoo! and Gmail email accounts.

 

  1. Back up all necessary data that is on the internal memory (and on the memory card, if you wish to erase the card also).
  2. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  3. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  4. Scroll to and tap Security.
  5. Tap Security Wipe.
  6. To choose which data will be wiped, select or clear the check boxes next to the following options:
    • Emails, Contacts, etc.
    • User Installed Applications
    • Media Card
  7. Enter blackberry in the text field.
  8. Tap Wipe Data.

 

Perform hard reset

A hard reset clears and shuts down all active programs.This can help when your phone is unresponsive, running slower than normal, or not performing properly. A hard reset does not delete any user data or settings.

 

To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Slide the back cover toward the bottom of the phone and remove.

  2. Remove the battery by lifting it out of the compartment or by tapping it into your hand.
  3. Wait at least 5 seconds.
  4. Align the golden contacts on the battery with the golden contacts in the battery compartment.

  5. Press the battery into place.
  6. Replace the back cover.
  7. In a few moments the phone will begin to restart; complete restart will take several minutes.

 

Perform soft reset using hardware keys

A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs.This can help when your phone is running slower than normal or not performing properly. A soft reset does not delete any user data or settings.

 

To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Save any files that are open.
  2. On the physical keyboard, press the alt key, Right shift (CAP) key, and the del key at the same time until the screen goes blank.
  3. In a few moments the phone will begin to restart; complete restart will take several minutes.

Security

BlackBerry Protect – Access

You can use the BlackBerry Protect Web site to locate, remotely lock, or remotely wipe data from your BlackBerry phone if it is lost or stolen. BlackBerry Protect also lets you automatically back up and restore important data on your Blackberry phone or switch data to a new BlackBerry device.

 

To access the BlackBerry Protect Web site, follow these steps:

 

Note: You cannot use BlackBerry Protect on devices that use a BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Enterprise (corporate) email.

 

  1. From a computer, browse to www.blackberry.com/protect.
  2. Click Log in.
  3. Enter your BlackBerry ID Username (email address) and Password.
  4. Click Sign In.
  5. Click Find Devices and choose from the following options:
    • View Current Location
    • Loud Ring
    • Display a Message
    • Lock Device
    • Wipe Device
  6. Click Backup & Restore and choose from the following options:
    • Back Up
    • Restore
  7. Click Your Devices to view information about your phone.

 

BlackBerry Protect – Set up

You can use the BlackBerry Protect Web site to locate, remotely lock, or remotely wipe data from your BlackBerry phone if it is lost or stolen. BlackBerry Protect also lets you automatically back up and restore important data on your Blackberry phone or switch data to a new BlackBerry device.

 

To set up BlackBerry Protect for your phone, follow these steps:

 

Note: You cannot use BlackBerry Protect on devices that use a BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Enterprise (corporate) email.

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Setup Setup.png icon.
  3. Tap BlackBerry Protect under Setup.
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. Tap to enable check boxes for each type of data you want backed up.
    • Note: BlackBerry Protect will not back up media files such as music, pictures, videos, etc., BlackBerry Messenger contacts, and third party application data.
  6. Tap Next.
  7. Tap Backup Frequency and select one of the following options:
    • Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
  8. Tap Next.
  9. If desired, tap to enable the check box for I want this device’s location to be viewable from the BlackBerry Protect web site.
  10. Tap Next.
  11. Tap Connect.
  12. If prompted, sign in with your BlackBerry ID or create a new BlackBerry ID account.
  13. Click Start Protect to begin the first back up of your phone’s data.
  14. Read the BlackBerry Protect Service License Agreement.
  15. Scroll to and tap I Agree.
  16. If desired, tap to enable Only Back Up over Wi-Fi.
  17. If desired, tap to enable Allow Backup When Roaming.
  18. Tap the Back Up Now icon.
  19. When the backup is complete, tap Close.

 

Change SIM PIN code

To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

 

Note: You can only change the SIM PIN code when SIM security is enabled. Enabling SIM security requires the PIN code be entered every time the device turns on. This security follows the SIM if it is moved to another device.

 

If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.

  1. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  2. Tap Device.
  3. Scroll to and tap Advanced System Settings.
  4. Tap SIM Card.
  5. Press the Menu key.
  6. Select Enable Security.
  7. Enter the PIN code.
    Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  8. Press the Trackpad.
  9. Press the Menu key.
  10. Select Change PIN Code.
  11. Enter the old PIN code.
  12. Press the Trackpad.
  13. Enter the new PIN code.
  14. Press the Trackpad.
  15. Enter the new PIN code again.
  16. Press the Trackpad.

 

Change PIN2 code

To change the PIN2 code, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Advanced System Settings.
  5. Tap SIM Card.
  6. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  7. Tap Change PIN2 Code.
  8. Enter the PIN code.
    Note: The default PIN2 code is 5678.
  9. Press the Trackpad.
  10. Enter the new PIN2 code.
  11. Press the Trackpad.
  12. Enter the new PIN2 code again.
  13. Press the Trackpad.

 

Change security code / password

When you have enabled security on your phone, your phone will lock when you turn it off. When you turn your phone back on, you must enter a password.

 

To change the default security code / password, follow these steps:

 

Note: You can only change the security code / password when security has already been enabled.

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Scroll to and tap Security.
  4. Tap Password.
  5. Tap Change Password.
  6. Enter the current password.
  7. Press the Trackpad.
  8. Enter the new password.
  9. Press the Trackpad.
  10. Enter the new password again.
  11. Press the Trackpad.
  12. Press the Menu Menu.png key.
  13. Select Save.

 

Lock – Application lock – Not supported

We’re sorry, but this feature is not available on your device.

 

Lock – Keyboard lock

Locking the keyboard protects against accidental key presses. No password is required to unlock the keyboard.

 

To lock or unlock the keyboard, follow these steps:

 

Lock

 

  1. Press the Lock key located on the top of the phone.
  2. The display will turn off and the keyboard will lock.

 

Unlock

 

  1. Press the Lock key located on the top of the phone.
  2. The display will turn on and the keyboard will unlock.

 

Lock phone

Phone lock causes your phone to lock when you turn it off. When you turn your phone back on, you must enter a password.

 

To lock or unlock the phone, follow these steps:

 

Lock

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Scroll to and tap Security.
  4. Tap Password.
  5. Tap Set Password.
  6. Enter the desired password.
  7. Press the Trackpad.
  8. Enter the desired password again.
  9. Press the Trackpad.
  10. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  11. Select Save.

 

Unlock

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Scroll to and tap Security.
  4. Tap Password.
  5. Tap Enable to clear the check box.
  6. Press the Menu key.
  7. Select Save.
  8. Enter the password you created when you activated the phone lock.
  9. Press the Trackpad.

 

Enable SIM lock

Note: Enabling SIM security requires the PIN code be entered every time the device turns on.This security follows the SIM if it is moved to another device.

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Advanced System Settings.
  5. Tap SIM Card.
  6. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  7. Select Enable Security.
  8. Enter the PIN code.
    Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  9. Press the Trackpad.

 

Disable SIM lock

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options options.png icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Advanced System Settings.
  5. Tap SIM Card.
  6. Press the Menu  Menu.png key.
  7. Select Disable Security.
  8. Enter the PIN code.
    Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  9. Press the Trackpad.

 

Unblock – PIN (PUK Code)

Related errors:

 

  • 'PIN blocked. Enter PUK or contact your Service Provider.'
  • 'Enter PUK code'

 

If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, your phone blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

 

  1. Contact Customer Care to request your PUK code.
  2. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  3. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  4. Tap Device.
  5. Scroll to and tap Advanced System Settings.
  6. Tap SIM Card.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Unblock SIM Card PIN.
  9. Enter the PUK code.
  10. Enter the new PIN code you want.
  11. Tap OK.
  12. Entire the new PIN code again.
  13. Tap OK.

 

Unblock – SIM (Mobile Device unlock)

Related errors:

 

  • 'Enter Special Code'
  • 'Please Wait to Enter Special Code'
  • ‘Your current SIM card requires an unlock code.’

 

The Mobile Device unlock code allows your phone to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier.

 

To enter the Mobile Device unlock code, follow these steps:

 

Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. Your phone locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

 

  1. Verify the phone’s IMEI by pressing the Send Send.png key and entering *#06#.
  2. Contact Customer Care to request your unblock code.
  3. Ensure that your blocked SIM card is inserted in the phone.
  4. Turn off the phone and then turn it back on.
  5. Tap Yes in the pop-up window that says “Your current SIM card requires an unlock code. Would you like to unlock it?”

  6. When prompted, enter the unblock code

  7. Confirm that a “Code Accepted” message is displayed.
  8. If you also have an MEP4 code, when prompted enter the MEP4 code and confirm that a “Code Accepted” message is displayed.
  9. Turn off the phone and then turn it back on.

Time and date

Alarm clock – Set

To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

 

Note: Additional alarms or alarms for certain days of the week must be scheduled through the Calendar application.

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Clock icon.
  3. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  4. Select Set Alarm.
  5. Tap the hour, minute, AM /PM, and Weekdays / On / Off fields and then scroll up or down to set each option.
  6. When finished, tap OK to save changes.

 

Auto-update (NITZ)

Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time while your phone turns on.

 

Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your phone, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

 

To turn NITZ on or off, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Clock icon.
  3. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  4. Select Set Time.
  5. Tap Auto Update Time Zone.
  6. Select one of the following options:
    • On
    • Off
    • Prompt
  7. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Time / date – Set

To set the time and date, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Clock icon.
  3. Press the Menu Menu.png  key.
  4. Select Set Time.
  5. Tap Update Time.
  6. Select Manual.
  7. Tap Set Time.
  8. Tap each field and then scroll up or down to set each time option.
  9. If necessary, tap Set Date, tap each field, and then scroll up or down to set each date option.
  10. Press the Menu  Menu.png key.
  11. Select Save.
