FAQs

Why did T-Mobile shut down the UMA/GAN-Lite platform?

The platform supporting UMA and GAN-Lite service is no longer supported by infrastructure vendors and handset manufacturers have stopped providing support for capable devices. This lack of support made it difficult to provide our customers with uncompromised Wi-Fi Calling service.

How many customers were impacted?

Only a limited number of T-Mobile customers were affected. We proactively worked with these customers to transition them to another solution to meet their needs.

How did you notify impacted customers?

For customers with older-model UMA or GAN-Lite non-LTE phones with Wi-Fi Calling functionality, the Primary Account Holder with the impacted device(s) received an SMS notification 30 days before the shutdown beginning March 8, 2017.

What do customers need to do?

Customers with older-model UMA or GAN-Lite non-LTE phones with Wi-Fi Calling technology should contact us with any questions, and discuss options to upgrade to a new device, as needed.
