Battery

Battery – Charge

To charge the battery, follow these steps:

 

Note: If the battery level is below 25%, use the AC power adapter instead of a car charger or USB cable.

 

Charge using a computer

 

Note: Your computer’s USB port must supply more than 130mA.

 

  1. Insert the small end of the USB cable into the charger/USB port of the phone.
  2. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the USB port of your computer.

 

Charge using a wall outlet

 

  1. Insert the small end of the USB cable into the charger/USB port of the phone.
  2. Plug the large end of the USB cable into the AC power adapter, and then plug the adapter into an electrical outlet.

 

Battery – Insert / remove

To insert or remove the battery, follow these steps:

 

Insert

 

  1. Slide the back cover toward the bottom of the phone and remove.

  2. Align the golden contacts on the battery with the golden contacts in the battery compartment.

  3. Press the battery into place.
  4. Replace the back cover.

 

Remove

 

  1. Slide the back cover toward the bottom of the phone and remove.

  2. Remove the battery by lifting it out of the compartment or by tapping it into your hand.
  3. Replace the back cover.

 

Battery status

To view the battery status, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Tap Device and Status Information.
  5. Scroll to Device Information.
  6. View Battery level (percent of full charge).

SIM card

Related error: 'Insert SIM'

 

To insert or remove the SIM card, follow these steps:

 

Insert

 

  1. Slide the back cover toward the bottom of the phone and remove.

  2. Remove the battery by lifting it out of the compartment or by tapping it into your hand.
  3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card holder with the gold contacts facing down and the notched corner of the SIM facing out of the slot.

  4. Align the golden contacts on the battery with the golden contacts in the battery compartment.
  5. Press the battery into place.
  6. Replace the back cover.

 

Remove

 

  1. Remove the battery by lifting it out of the compartment or by tapping it into your hand.
  2. Slide the SIM card out of the SIM card holder.
  3. Align the golden contacts on the battery with the golden contacts in the battery compartment.
  4. Press the battery into place.
  5. Replace the back cover.

Status light indicators

Review the following information about the status light indicators:

 

Flashing LED color

Status

Green

You are in a wireless coverage area.

Blue

Your device is connected to a Bluetooth enabled device.

Red

A new message has arrived and your selected profile is set to notify you using the flashing LED.

Amber

The battery power level for your phone is low, or your phone is turned off and is charging.

Memory

Set default memory location – Pictures

To set the default memory location for pictures, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Camera icon.
  3. Press the Menu key.
  4. Scroll to and tap Options.
  5. Scroll to and tap the Store Pictures drop-down menu.
  6. Tap On Device or On Media Card.
  7. Press the Menu key.
  8. Select Save.

 

Set default memory location – Videos

To set the default memory location for videos, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Media icon.
  3. Tap the Video Camera icon.
  4. Press the Menu key.
  5. Tap Options.
  6. Scroll to and tap the Store Videos drop-down menu.
  7. Tap On Device or On Media Card.
  8. Press the Menu key.
  9. Select Save.

  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  5. Under Built-in Media Storage, view Total Space and Free Space on the phone.

Access files – On card using computer

The BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer makes it easy transfer files between your phone and your computer. To use the BlackBerry Desktop Software you first must install it on your computer.

 

To view files on a memory card from a computer, follow these steps:

 

Note: These steps and screenshots are correct for a Windows computer. The procedure for a Mac OS X computer is similar, but screen windows and options may differ.

 

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.
  3. Click Files.
  4. If necessary, click Get Started.
  5. The BlackBerry Desktop Software window now shows the directory hierarchy on your phone.
  6. Click the small triangles to navigate to the internal phone (device) memory or the memory (media) card and then to the desired folder.
  7. Right-click a phone file in the BlackBerry Desktop Software window and click one of the following options:
    • Cut
    • Copy
    • Open
    • Delete
    • Rename

 

Access files – On card using phone

To view files on a memory card using your phone, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Media icon.
  3. Select from the following options:
    • Music
    • Pictures
    • Videos
    • Podcasts

 

OR

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Applications icon.
  3. Tap the Files icon.
  4. Tap File Folders.
  5. Tap Media Card.
  6. Navigate to the desired files.

 

Delete files – On card using computer

To delete files on a memory card from a computer, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.
  3. Click Files.
  4. If necessary, click Get Started.
  5. The BlackBerry Desktop Software window now shows the directory hierarchy on your phone.
  6. Click the small triangles to navigate to the internal phone (device) memory or the memory (media) card and then to the desired folder.
  7. Right-click a phone file in the BlackBerry Desktop Software window and click Delete.
  8. Click Yes to confirm that you want to permanently delete the file.

 

Delete files – On card using phone

To delete files on a memory card using your phone, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Media icon.
  3. Navigate to and touch and hold a file you want to delete.
  4. Tap Delete.
  5. Tap Delete again.

Note: Before removing or replacing the battery, make sure the phone is turned off. To turn the phone off, press and hold the End/Power key.

  3. Slide the memory card into the memory card holder with the golden contacts facing down.

  5. Press the battery into place.
  6. Replace the back cover.

 

Remove

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Scroll to and tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  5. Press the Menu key.
  6. Select Safely Remove Media Card.
  7. Press and hold the End/Power key to turn the phone off.
  8. Slide the back cover toward the bottom of the phone and remove.
  9. Remove the battery by lifting it out of the compartment or by tapping it into your hand.
  10. Slide the memory card out of the memory card holder.
  11. Align the golden contacts on the battery with the golden contacts in the battery compartment.
  12. Press the battery into place.
  13. Replace the back cover.

To copy files from a memory card to a computer using a USB cable, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer.
  3. Click Files.
  4. If necessary, click Get Started.
  5. The BlackBerry Desktop Software window now shows the directory hierarchy on your phone.
  6. Click the small triangles to navigate to the internal phone (device) memory or the memory (media) card and then to the desired folder.
  7. Drag and drop files from the BlackBerry Desktop Software window to copy files from the phone or the phone’s memory card to the computer’s desktop or to another folder in the file explorer.

 

Move / copy files – Card to phone

To copy files from a memory card to the phone’s internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Applications icon.
  3. Tap the Files icon.
  4. Tap File Folders.
  5. Tap Media Card.
  6. Navigate to and touch and hold the file you want to copy.
  7. Tap Copy.
  8. Press the Escape key and navigate back to File Folders.
  9. Tap Device.
  10. Tap home.
  11. Tap user.
  12. Navigate to the desired folder and press the Menu key.
  13. Tap Paste.

 

Move files – Computer to card

The BlackBerry Desktop Software on your computer makes it easy transfer files between your phone and your computer. To use the BlackBerry Desktop Software you first must install it on your computer.

 

To copy files from a computer to a memory card using a USB cable, follow these steps:

  6. Click the small triangles to navigate to the internal phone (device) memory or the memory (media) card and then to the desired folder.
  7. Drag and drop files from the computer’s desktop or from another folder in the file explorer to the BlackBerry Desktop Software window to copy the files to the phone or the phone’s memory card.
  8. When the transfer is complete, click Close.

 

Move /copy files – Phone to card

To copy files from the phone’s internal memory to a memory card, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Applications icon.
  3. Tap the Files icon.
  4. Tap File Folders.
  5. Tap Device.
  6. Tap home.
  7. Tap user.
  8. Navigate to and touch and hold the file you want to copy.
  9. Tap Copy.
  10. Press the Escape key and navigate back to File Folders.
  11. Tap Media Card.
  12. Navigate to the desired folder and press the Menu key.
  13. Tap Paste.

View available memory

To view the amount of free and used space on a memory card, follow these steps:

 

  1. If necessary, touch the bottom of the Home screen to expand the Applications panel.
  2. Scroll to the All panel and tap the Options icon.
  3. Tap Device.
  4. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  5. Under Media Card Storage, view Total Space and Free Space on memory card.

 

USB settings

To change the USB connection settings on your phone, follow these steps:

 

Note: You can only change your USB connection settings when you connect your phone to a computer. When you disconnect your phone from the computer, the settings revert to the default (Charge Only).

 

  1. Connect the small end of your USB cable to your phone and the large end of the cable to your computer.
  2. On your phone, a pop-up window appears.
  3. Select one of the following options:
    • USB Drive
    • Sync Media
    • Charge Only
