Notifications & ringtones: Samsung Galaxy S III

Learn how to set alerts, ringtones, and notifications on the Samsung Galaxy S III.

 

 

 

Emergency alerts

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Messaging.
  3. Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
  4. Tap Emergency alerts.
  5. For the following alerts, tap the alert to select the check box and turn on or clear the check box and turn off:
    • Imminent extreme alert
    • Imminent severe alert
    • AMBER alerts
    • Presidential alerts are automatically turned on and cannot be disabled.

 

Incoming email

 

Gmail

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Gmail.
  3. Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
  4. Tap your email address.
  5. To turn off, tap Notifications to clear the check box.
  6. To turn on, tap Notifications to select the check box.
  7. Tap Sound & vibrate to adjust the desired notification settings including the following settings:
    • Tap Sound to select the notification tone.
    • Tap Vibrate to select or clear the check box and turn on or turn off vibrate notification.

 

Email

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Email.
  3. Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
  4. Tap your email address.
  5. To turn off, tap Email notifications to clear the check box.
  6. To turn on, tap Email notifications to select the check box.
  7. Tap Select ringtone to select the notification tone.
  8. Tap Vibrate to select or clear the check box and turn on or turn off vibrate notification.

 

Ringtones

 

Ringtone for all calls

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Sound.
  4. Tap Device ringtone.
  5. Tap the desired Ringtone and then tap OK.

 

Ringtone for calls from one contact

You cannot assign a ringtone to contacts stored on the SIM card or phone (device memory).

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Contacts.
  2. If necessary, tap the Contacts tab.
  3. Tap the desired contact.
  4. Tap the Edit icon (pencil).
  5. Tap Ringtone.
  6. Choose one of the following options:
    • Tap Default
    • Tap Ringtones and then the desired ringtone. Tap OK.
    • Tap Go to My Files to assign one of your audio or music files. Navigate to the desired file. To the left of the file, tap the bullet point to fill it with color. Tap Done.
  7. Tap Save.
