Network, APN, and VoLTE: Samsung Galaxy S III

Use these steps to support network settings on the Samsung Galaxy S III.

 

 

 

APN & data settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Connections tab.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Tap Mobile networks.
  6. Tap Access Point Names.
  7. If available, tap the T-Mobile US APN (the bullet point fills with green). If not available, tap the Menu key, and then tap New APN. To reset your APN settings, tap the Menu key and then tap Reset to default.
  8. Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN:
    • Name: T-Mobile US LTE
    • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
    • Proxy: <Not set>
    • Port: <Not set>
    • Username: <Not set>
    • Password: <Not set>
    • Server: <Not set>
    • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    • MMS proxy: <Not set>
    • MMS port: <Not set>
    • MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    • MCC: 310
    • MNC: 260
    • Authentication type: <Not set>
    • APN type: <Not set> OR Internet+MMS
    • APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
    • APN roaming protocol: IPv4
    • Enable/disable APN: <greyed out unless there are multiple APN's>
    • Bearer: Unspecified
  9. Tap the Menu key.
  10. Tap Save.
  11. Tap the desired APN profile you want to use. The bullet point fills with green next to the APN profile.

 

Data settings

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. If necessary, tap Wi-Fi to turn off Wi-Fi. The icon is removed of color.
  3. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap the Connections tab.
  6. Tap More networks.
  7. If necessary, tap Airplane mode to clear the check box. Airplane mode is now turned off.
  8. Tap the Back key.
  9. Tap Data usage.
  10. If necessary, tap Mobile data to select the check box. Your data connection is now turned on.
  11. If you are roaming off the T-Mobile Network, you can tap Data roaming to select the check box if you are roaming internationally, but it is required to receive data when roaming domestically.

 

Manual network selection

The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Connections tab.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Tap Mobile networks.
  6. Tap Network operators.
  7. Tap Search now.

 

Switch 2G / 4G

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Connections tab.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Tap Mobile networks.
  6. Tap Network mode.
  7. Tap one of the following desired band settings:
    • GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)
    • GSM only (2G only setting)
    • WCDMA only

 

Turn on / off airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off wireless connections. This allows app and menu use, but prevents voice or Internet use.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Connections tab.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. To turn on, tap Airplane mode to select the check box. Tap OK.
  6. To turn off, tap Airplane mode to clear the check box. Tap OK.

 

Turn on / off data roaming

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Connections tab.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Tap Mobile networks.
  6. To turn on, tap Data roaming to select the check box.
  7. To turn off, tap Data roaming to clear the check box.
