Backup & restore: BlackBerry Classic

Learn how to back up and restore apps, contacts, photos, and data on the BlackBerry Classic.

 

 

 

Back up apps

  1. If necessary, download BlackBerry Link.
  2. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  3. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  4. Click your device name at the bottom of the screen.
    • If necessary, follow the tutorial for adding your new device to BlackBerry Link.
  5. Click the Settings icon.
  6. Click Back up my device to select the check box.
  7. Next to 'Back up my device,' click the drop-down arrow and select how often you want to back up your apps.
  8. Click Select data to include in your back files to select the check box.
  9. Click Application data to select the check box.
  10. If desired, click the pencil icon next to the File name field and update the file name to a noteworthy title (for example, include 'Apps' in the title) for easy identification.
  11. Click Back Up Now.

Using BlackBerry Link

To back up, you must log into your BlackBerry ID account (or create an account).

  1. If necessary, download BlackBerry Link (See 'Drivers for Computers').
  2. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  3. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  4. Click your device name at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Note: If necessary, follow the tutorial for adding your new device to BlackBerry Link.
  6. Click the Settings icon.
  7. Click Back up my device to select the check box.
  8. Next to 'Back up my device,' click the drop-down arrow and select how often you want to back up your apps.
  9. Click Select data to include in your back files to select the check box.
  10. Click Settings to select the check box. The Settings category backs up your settings (including contacts).
  11. If desired, click the pencil icon next to the File name field and update to a noteworthy title.
  12. Click Back Up Now.

 

Back up contacts to SD card

  1. Open the Contacts app and swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings, then tap Copy contacts from device to SIM card.
  3. Tap OK.

 

Back up media & pictures

 

  1. If necessary, download BlackBerry Link (See 'Drivers for Computers').
  2. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  3. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  4. Click your device name at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Note: If necessary, follow the tutorial for adding your new device to BlackBerry Link.
  6. Click the Settings icon.
  7. Click Back up my device to select the check box.
    • You can also click Synchronization to set up auto sync. However, your computer files will also sync to your device when using this setting.
  8. Next to 'Back up my device,' click the drop-down arrow and select how often you want to back up your media.
  9. Click Select data to include in your back files to select the check box.
  10. Click Media to select the check box.
  11. If desired, click the pencil icon next to the File name field and update the file name. It is recommended you update the file to a noteworthy title (for example, include 'Media and pictures' in the title) to easily identify the file in the future.
  12. Click Back Up Now.

 

Restore apps

  1. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  2. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  3. Click your device name at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click the Settings icon.
  5. Click Restore device data.
  6. Click the desired back up file from the list.
    • If the back up file was a full back up but you do not want to back up all files:
      1. Click the check box next to 'Restore all data' to clear the check box.
      2. Click the check box next to 'Application data' to select the check box.
  7. Read the message stating that you are about to replace your files with possibly out of date files.
  8. Click Yes. After clicking Yes, do not disconnect the USB cable until the transfer is complete.
  9. When the transfer is complete, your device will restart. When your device turns on and reloads, it is safe to disconnect the USB cable.

 

Restore contacts

 

From SIM card

  1. Open the Contacts app and swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings, then tap Import Contacts from SIM Card.
  3. Tap OK.

 

Using BlackBerry Link

  1. Save any necessary items before proceeding.
  2. Connected your device to your computer using the USB cable.
  3. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  4. Click your device name at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click the Settings icon.
  6. Click Restore device data.
  7. From the list, click the file containing the backed up contacts.
    • The Settings category files contain backed up contacts (not Media or Application data files).
  8. Click Restore and then click Yes. Do not disconnect cable during the backup. You can monitor the backup progress on the your device screen.
  9. When the backup is complete, disconnect the USB cable.

 

Restore media & pictures

To restore, you must log into your BlackBerry ID account (or create an account).

  1. Connect your device to the USB cable and connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
  2. On your computer, open BlackBerry Link.
  3. Click your device name at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click the Settings icon.
  5. From the list, click the file containing the backed up contacts
    • The Media category files contain media and pictures (not Settings or Application data files).
  6. Read the message stating that you are about to replace your files with possibly out of date files.
  7. Click Yes. After clicking Yes, do not disconnect the USB cable until the transfer is complete.
  8. When the transfer is complete, your device will restart. When your device turns on and reloads, it is safe to disconnect the USB cable.
