Network, APN, and VoLTE: Samsung Galaxy S 6

Use these steps to support network settings on the Samsung Galaxy S 6.

 

 

 

APN & data settings

APN data settings allow you to connect to T-Mobile's LTE network. Changing these settings could cause interruption in your data network.

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Access Point Names.
  5. If available, tap the T-Mobile US LTE (the bullet point fills with green). If not available, tap the ADD.
    To reset your APN settings, tap the Menu (3 dots) icon and then tap Reset to default.
  6. Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN:
    • Name: T-Mobile US LTE
    • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
    • Proxy: <Not set>
    • Port: <Not set>
    • Username: <Not set>
    • Password: <Not set>
    • Server: <Not set>
    • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    • MMS proxy: <Not set>
    • MMS port: <Not set>
    • MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    • MCC: 310
    • MNC: 260
    • Authentication type:<Not set>
    • APN Type: default,supl,mms OR Internet+MMS
      • Default Android provides a text field to enter: default,supl,mms
      • Samsung provides an Internet+MMS radio button to select..
    • APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
    • APN roaming protocol: IPv4
    • Enable/disable APN: <greyed out unless there are multiple APN's>
    • Bearer: Unspecified
  7. Tap Menu (3 dots) icon > Save.
  8. Tap the desired APN profile you want to use. The bullet point fills with green next to the APN profile.

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Access Point Names.
  5. If available, tap the T-Mobile US APN (the bullet point fills with green). If not available, tap the Menu key, and then tap New APN. To reset your APN settings, tap MORE and then tap Reset to default.
  6. Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN:
    • Name: T-Mobile US LTE
    • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
    • Proxy: <Not set>
    • Port: <Not set>
    • Username: <Not set>
    • Password: <Not set>
    • Server: <Not set>
    • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    • MMS proxy: <Not set>
    • MMS port: <Not set>
    • MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    • MCC: 310
    • MNC: 260
    • Authentication type: <Not set>
    • APN Type: default,supl,mms OR Internet+MMS
      • Default Android provides a text field to enter: default,supl,mms

  7. Tap MORE > Save.
  8. Tap the desired APN profile you want to use. The bullet point fills with green next to the APN profile.

 

Manual network selection

The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network operators.
  5. Tap Search now.

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network operators.
  5. Tap Search now.

 

Switch 2G / 4G

Manually changing from 2G to 4G/LTE will allow you to select which network you would like your phone to register to. This will change your data speeds, but also increase battery life if you are on 2G network only.

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network mode.
  5. Tap one of the following desired band settings:
    • LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)
    • 3G/2G (auto connect)
    • 3G ONLY
    • 2G ONLY

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Network mode.
  5. Tap one of the following desired band settings:
    • LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)
    • 3G/2G (auto connect)
    • 3G ONLY
    • 2G ONLY

 

Turn on / off airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off wireless connections. This allows app and menu use, but prevents voice or Internet use.

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Airplane mode.
  4. Slide the Airplane mode Switch right to the ON or OFF position.

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Airplane mode.
  4. Slide the Airplane mode switch right to the ON or OFF position.

 

Turn on / off data roaming

Turning your data roaming on or off, gives you control whether you would like your phone to register and use the mobile data networks while roaming on a different carriers network. Roaming and international rates may apply.

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Slide the Data roaming switch right to the ON or OFF position.

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Slide the Data roaming switch to the ON or OFF position.

 

Turn on / off mobile data

Turning on and off your mobile data will give you control of using the internet services on your device. To turn your mobile data on or off, follow the steps blow:

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Data usage.
  4. Tap Mobile data.
  5. Slide the Mobile data Switch to the ON or OFF position.

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Data usage.
  4. Slide the Mobile data switch to the ON or OFF position.

 

Turn on / off VoLTE

When DIGITS is active on the account, the VoLTE menu will be disabled and hidden.

 

Android 7.0 Nougat

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings > Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Slide the VoLTE calls switch to the ON or OFF position.

 

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

  1. From any Home screen, tap Phone.
  2. Tap the Menu or MORE icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Slide the Voice over LTE switch to the ON or OFF position.
