Smartphone Mobile Hotspot: Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Set up

Note: Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot settings cannot be changed when Wi-Fi sharing is turned on.

 

  1. Check that Wi-Fi and Smartphone Mobile Hotspot are turned off.
  2. Ensure you are connected to the wireless network.
  3. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Scroll to NETWORK CONNECTIONS, then tap Tethering and Mobile HotSpot.
  6. AVAILABLE ON ANDROID 4.4 ONLY: If desired, tap Mobile HotSpot range and choose either setting:
    • Standard
    • High
  7. Tap Mobile HotSpot.
  8. If prompted, create a Wi-Fi password. When the pop-up window appears:
    1. Tap the Password field.
    2. Enter the password (passwords must be at least eight characters).
    3. Tap Save.
  9. If desired, tap OK and read the First Time Use details or tap Cancel to proceed.
  10. Tap the Menu key in the top right of the screen.
  11. Tap Configure from the Menu drop down.
  12. Tap to adjust the following settings:
    • Network SSID
    • Broadcast network name (SSID) (on/off)
    • Security
    • Password
    • Show password
    • Show advanced options
      • Broadcast channel
      • Auto
      • Maximum connections
      • Timeout settings
  13. Once finished adjusting settings, tap Save.
  14. Tap the device SSID name (ex. Samsung Galaxy Note 4).
  15. Tap to select one of the following:
    • All devices.
    • Allowed devices only
  16. Tap the Mobile HotSpot Switch to turn on.
  17. The Mobile HotSpot Switch slides right and turns green.

 

Turn on / off

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, tap Tethering and Mobile HotSpot.
  4. Tap Mobile HotSpot.
  5. Tap to turn on Mobile HotSpot. The grayed-out OFF icon will change to a green ON icon.

 

Your phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect to it with up to five computers or other devices. Your phone’s default SSID is Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
