Text to speech: Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Use these steps to use text to speech to have messages read out loud on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

 

 

 

Set up

Note: If you are using Text to speech in English, this language is already installed and available to use.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'SYSTEM,' then tap Language & input.
  4. Under 'SPEECH,' tap Text-to-speech options.
  5. Select desired TTS engine:
    • Samsung text-to-speech engine
    • Google Text-to-speech Engine
  6. Next to the desired search engine, tap the Settings icon.
  7. Tap Install voice data.
    • For the Samsung text-to-speech engine, the desired language may already be downloaded.
    • However, you have the option of downloading a higher quality version.
  8. Next to the desired language, tap Download or the Download icon.
  9. Wait as the language downloads. It may take a few minutes.
  10. Tap the Back key.
  11. Tap Language to select the language

 

TalkBack settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'PERSONALIZATION,' then tap Accessibility.
  4. Under 'MORE SETTINGS,' tap Direct access.
  5. Tap TalkBack.
  6. Tap Settings.
  7. Tap to adjust the desired settings.

 

Text to speech settings

Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'SYSTEM,' then tap Language & input.
  4. Under 'SPEECH,' tap Text-to-speech options.
  5. Tap Speech rate and then adjust how fast the text will be spoken.
  6. Tap the Settings icon next to the desired TTS engine (Samsung or Google).
  7. To tap the Settings icon, the TTS engine must be selected.
  8. Tap Language to adjust the spoken language.
  9. Tap adjust any other desired settings

 

Turn on driving mode

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Status bar and drag it down.
  2. Tap the More quick settings icon.
  3. Tap Car mode. The icon fills with color.
  4. Review the message and tap Open S Voice.

 

Turn on TalkBack

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'PERSONALIZATION,' then tap Accessibility.
  4. Under 'MORE SETTINGS,' tap Direct access.
  5. Slide the Direct access Switch right to the ON position.
    • This enables your Accessibility settings.
    • You can also enable your Accessibility settings by pressing the Home key 3 times in quick succession.
  6. Tap TalkBack to enable the feature.
