Network, APN, and VoLTE: Samsung Galaxy Avant

Use these steps to support network settings on the Samsung Galaxy Avant.

 

 

 

APN & data settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, tap More networks.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Access Point Names.
  6. If available, tap the T-Mobile US APN (the bullet point fills with green). If not available, tap +New APN.
    Note: To reset your APN settings, tap the Menu icon and then tap Reset to default.
  7. Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN:
    • Name: T-Mobile US LTE
    • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
    • Proxy: <Not set>
    • Port: <Not set>
    • Username: <Not set>
    • Password: <Not set>
    • Server: <Not set>
    • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    • MMS proxy: <Not set>
    • MMS port: <Not set>
    • MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
    • MCC: 310
    • MNC: 260
    • Authentication type: <Not set>
    • APN type: <Not set> OR Internet+MMS
    • APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
    • APN roaming protocol: IPv4
    • Enable/disable APN: <greyed out unless there are multiple APN's>
    • Bearer: Unspecified
  8. Tap the Menu.
  9. Tap Save.
  10. Tap the desired APN profile you want to use. The bullet point fills with green next to the APN profile.

 

Manual network selection

The device detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

 

  1. From any home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap More networks.
  4. Under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, tap Mobile networks.
  5. Check that both check boxes are clear:
    • Data enabled
    • Data roaming
  6. Tap Network operators.
  7. Tap Search networks.
  8. The phone searches for networks. This takes several minutes.
  9. Tap to select the desired network. The phone registers you on that network.

 

Switch 2G / 4G

  1. From any home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, tap More networks.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Network mode.
  6. Tap one of the following:
    • LTE / WCDMA / GSM (auto connect) (LTE setting)
    • GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)
    • WCDMA only
    • GSM only (2G only setting

 

Turn on / off airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off wireless connections. This allows app and menu use, but prevents voice or Internet use.

 

  1. From any home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Airplane mode switch ON/OFF.
  4. Review the Airplane mode message, then tap OK.

 

Turn on / off data roaming

  1. From any home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, tap More networks.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Data roaming check box.
  6. Review the Attention message, then tap OK.

 

Turn on / off mobile data

  1. From any home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under NETWORK CONNECTIONS, tap More networks.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Mobile Data check box.

 

Turn on / off VoLTE

  1. Tap Settings > Call.
  2. Tap Voiceover LTE settings.
  3. Tap Use VoLTE when available or Do not use VoLTE.
