First-time use: Samsung Gear S

After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up the Samsung Gear S.

 

 

 

With SIM setup (enables Call Forwarding features)

Check that the proper data plan has been added to the account before following the below setup. Call Forwarding to the Wearable MSISDN will not work if there is no active rate plan on the account. After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up your device. To do this initial setup, follow these steps:

 

Connected phone

  1. Download and install the Samsung Gear Manager from the Samsung GALAXY Apps store.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and scan for available devices.
  3. When the Gear S shows up as an available device, select it.
  4. On the Bluetooth pairing request, tap OK. If additional software is required, the app will automatically download and install the software.
  5. When the pairing process has completed, from the Legal notices screen on the Android device, tap Next.
  6. After reviewing the End User Licence Agreement, ensure I agree is checked, tap Next, then tap Finish.
  7. When the connection is established, you will be required to sign into your Samsung account if you have not already.
  8. Tap Finish.
  9. Once the Gear S has completed the initial tutorial, the Gear Manager will ask which types of notifications you want to be sent to the Gear S. Place a check next to your preferred options and tap OK.
  10. The Gear Manager will automatically run through the Call Forwarding setup after you select your notifications. Confirm that you have read and accepted the terms and conditions and tap Yes.
  11. From the Gear Manager app, select the Gear S if you are not already in the profile. Tap Settings.
  12. Tap Auto call forwarding. Select the terms and conditions, then tap OK.
  13. If the feature does not turn on automatically, move the slider to the ON position.
  14. You will need to enter in the MSISDN assigned to the Wearable SIM that is in the Gear S. Toggle the Auto call forwarding to be able to select the Number settings to manually enter the MSISDN, once entered, tap OK.
  15. Your setup is complete.

 

Gear S

  1. Ensure the Gear S is charged and powered on.
  2. Complete the install of the Samsung Gear Manager on your connected phone then tap Next.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth and make the Wearable discoverable.
  4. Once the connection has been found, in the Connection window, tap OK. After the Samsung Gear Manager app has completed the connection process, the Gear S will automatically run through a short tutorial.
  5. To learn how to use your Gear, tap Next then follow the on screen instructions. Once complete, tap OK.
  6. Complete the Auto Call forwarding setup in the Gear Manager app on the connected phone. Once complete, follow the next steps based on the type of connection mode:
    Companion/Relay modeStandalone mode
    • Calls and text messages will be made from the connected phone MSISDN.
    • This connection mode requires Bluetooth to be turned on and the devices to be in range of reach other.
    • Confirm that the Wearable MSISDN displays as the Call forwarding number when the two devices are next to each other (Gear S > Settings > Call > Auto call forwarding > Turn on > Number setting (displays the Wearable MSISDN)).
    • Incoming calls or texts can be from the connect phone MSISDN or from the Wearable MSISDN. Outgoing calls or texts will be sent from the Wearable MSISDN when you reply.
    • Standalone mode will automatically turn on when the Wearable and connected phone are out of range of each other or if the Bluetooth connection has been manually disabled.
    • Confirm that the Wearable MSISDN displays as the Auto call forwarding number (Connected phone > Samsung Gear Manager app > Settings > CALL > Auto call forwarding > Turn on > Number setting (displays the Wearable MSISDN)).

 

Without SIM setup (no Call Forwarding features)

If there is no SIM inserted or if there is a SIM inserted without an active Wearable plan, the Gear S will function only over Bluetooth as a companion device. Incoming or outgoing calls and texts will be from the connected phone's MSISDN only. After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up your device. To do this initial setup, follow these steps:

 

Connected phone

  1. Download and install the Samsung Gear Manager from the Samsung GALAXY Apps store.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and scan for available devices.
  3. Once the Gear S shows up in the available device, tap to select.
  4. On the Bluetooth pairing request, tap OK. If additional software is required, the app will automatically download and install the software.
  5. When the pairing process has completed, from the Legal notices screen on the Android device, tap Next.
  6. Read and accept the the End User Licence Agreement and then tap Next.
  7. Tap Finish.
  8. When the connection is established, you will be required to sign into your Samsung account if you have not already.
  9. Tap Finish.
  10. Once the Gear S has completed the initial tutorial, the Gear Manager will ask which types of notifications you want to be sent to the Gear S. Place a check next to your preferred options and tap OK.
