Text to speech: Kyocera DuraForce XD

Use these steps to use text to speech to have messages read out loud on the Kyocera DuraForce XD.

 

 

 

Set up

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Language & input > Text-to-speech output.
  3. Choose from the following options:
    • Speech rate
    • Speech pitch
    • Listen to an example
    • Default language status

 

TalkBack settings

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Adjust the following options:
    • Speech volume
    • Use pitch changes
    • Keyboard echo
    • Speak when screen is off
    • Use proximity sensor
    • Shake to start continuous reading
    • Speak caller ID
    • Speak phonetic letters
    • Speak usage hints
    • Vibration feedback
    • Sound feedback
    • Focus speech audio
    • Sound volume
    • Explore by touch
    • Automatically scroll lists
    • Single-tap selection
    • Show Context Menu as list
    • Launch "Explore by touch" tutorial
    • Manage gestures
    • Manage custom labels
    • Manage keyboard shortcuts
    • Talkback suspend and resume shortcut
    • Dim screen when TalkBack is enabled
    • Dim screen shortcut
    • Resume from suspend
    • Open TalkBack at the Play Store
    • Developer settings
    • Privacy Policy
    • Terms of Service

 

Text to speech settings

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Language & input > Text-to-speech output.
  3. Next to Google Text-to-speech Engine, tap the settings gear.
  4. Tap Language to change the language.
  5. Tap Settings for Google Text-to-speech Engine to adjust the following settings:
    • Auto-update voices
    • Use Wi-Fi only
    • Anonymous usage reports
    • feedback

 

Turn on TalkBack

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack.
  3. Tap the switch to turn TalkBack on or off.
