Wi-Fi calling: Samsung Galaxy S 5

Learn how to set up and use Wi-Fi calling and connection preference on the Samsung Galaxy S 5.




Turn on & connect

To use Wi-Fi calling, you must first register an E911 address and turn on Wi-Fi to connect to a Wi-Fi network.


  1. Register your E911 address at My T-Mobile.
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi.
  3. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Under 'QUICK SETTINGS,' tap Wi-Fi.
  6. Tap the Wi-Fi Switch to the ON position. The Switch moves right and turns green.
  7. Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
  8. If prompted, enter the password.
  9. Tap Connect.
  10. If you do not see the network:
    1. Tap the Menu key in the top right corner of the screen.
    2. Tap Scan.
    3. You can also tap + Add Wi-Fi network to manually add a network.


Set connection preference

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network. (See 'Turn on and connect' below.)
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll to 'NETWORK CONNECTIONS,' then tap More networks.
  5. If necessary, slide the Wi-Fi Switch right to the ON position.
  6. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  7. Tap Connection Preferences.
  8. Select one of the these options:
    • Wi-Fi Preferred
    • Cellular Network Preferred
    • Never use Cellular Network
