Wi-Fi calling: Samsung Galaxy S 5

Learn how to set up and use Wi-Fi calling and connection preference on the Samsung Galaxy S 5.

 

 

 

Turn on & connect

To use Wi-Fi calling, you must first register an E911 address and turn on Wi-Fi to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

 

Turn on

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'QUICK SETTINGS,' tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi Switch to the ON position. The Switch moves right and turns green.

 

Connect

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'QUICK SETTINGS,' tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
  5. If prompted, enter the password.
  6. Tap Connect.
  7. If you do not see the network:
    • Tap the Menu key in the top right corner of the screen.
    • Tap Scan.
    • You can also tap + Add Wi-Fi network to manually add a network.

 

Set connection preference

Setting connection preference allows your device to decide to use cellular connection or Wi-Fi calling, depending on which has best signal strength.

 

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll to 'NETWORK CONNECTIONS,' then tap More networks.
  5. If necessary, slide the Wi-Fi Switch right to the ON position.
  6. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  7. Tap Connection Preferences.
  8. Select one of the these options:
    • Wi-Fi Preferred
    • Cellular Network Preferred
    • Never use Cellular Network
