Backup & restore: Samsung Galaxy Tab A

Learn how to back up and restore apps, contacts, photos, and data on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

 

 

 

Back up apps

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'Personal',  then tap Backup & reset.
  4. Set your backup account if you don't have one. It defaults to your Google account.
  5. Select these check boxes:   
    • Back up my data
    • Automatic restore

 

Back up media & pictures

 

From phone

  1. Insert your SD card.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap My Files.
  4. Scroll to 'Local storage,' then tap Device storage.
  5. Tap the MORE icon located at top-right to expand the drop-down menu.
  6. Tap Edit and select the files you want to move, then tap MOVE.
  7. Select the SD card and navigate to the folder you want to move the file to, then tap MOVE HERE.
  8. A confirmation message will appear detailing how many files were moved once complete.

 

From computer - PC

  1. Connect USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. If necessary, follow these steps:   
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device..
    3. Select the Media device (MTP) check box.
  3. On the computer, click Open device to view files.
  4. Navigate to the desired files on your phone.
  5. Drag and drop the files into the desired computer folder.
  6. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

From computer - Mac

  1. If necessary, follow these steps:   
    1. Navigate to samsung.com/kies.
    2. Click DOWNLOAD FOR MAC OS.
    3. Follow prompts to download the Kies software.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the phone.
  3. Connect the USB cable to a computer's USB slot
  4. If necessary, follow these steps:   
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device.
    3. Tap Media device to select the check box.
  5. On your computer, open Kies.
  6. Inside Kies, click the Back up / restore tab.
  7. If necessary, click the Backup tab.
  8. Next to 'Music' and 'Photo,' select the check box.
  9. To back up all of your files, select 'Select all items' check box.
  10. Click Backup.
  11. Safely disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

Restore media & pictures

 

From phone

  1. Insert your SD card.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap My Files.
  4. Scroll to 'Local storage,' then tap SD card.
  5. Tap the MORE icon located at top-right to expand the drop-down menu.
  6. Tap Edit and select the files you want to move, then tap MOVE.
  7. Select the Device storage and navigate to the folder you want to move the file to, then tap MOVE HERE.
  8. A confirmation message will appear detailing how many files were moved once complete.

 

From computer - PC

  1. Connect USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. If necessary, follow these steps:   
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device..
    3. Select the Media device (MTP) check box.
  3. On the computer, click Open device to view files.
  4. Navigate to the desired files on your computer:   
    • The Card icon is your SD card.
    • The Phone icon is your device's internal storage.
  5. Drag and drop the files into the desired phone folder.
  6. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

From computer - Mac

  1. Connect the USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. If necessary. follow these steps:   
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device.
    3. Tap Media device to select the check box.
  3. On your computer, open Kies.
  4. Inside Kies, click the Back up / restore tab.
  5. If necessary, click the Restore tab.
  6. Next to 'Music' and 'Photo,' click the check box to select the check box. If available, click the check boxes next to any other categories you would like to restore.
  7. If you would like to restore all of your files, click the check box next to 'Select all items.'
  8. Click Restore. If necessary, follow any additional prompts.
  9. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
