First-time use: Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

After turning on your device the first time, you may see a setup wizard to help you set up the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.



First-time use

  1. Make sure the battery and SIM card are inserted:
  2. If necessary, tap English and then select your desired language.
  3. Tap Accessibility to adjust any necessary accessibility settings.
  4. Tap the yellow arrow to move to the next screen.
  5. If desired, tap the Wi-Fi Switch to turn on Wi-Fi. Below, tap an available network to connect, complete the connection setup and tap OK.
  6. Tap NEXT.
  7. Read the Terms and conditions for the End user license and tap NEXT.
  8. Confirm that you agree to the Terms and conditions by tapping AGREE.
  9. The device will check if any software updates are available and move on automatically if there are none.
  10. Got another device? screen will display, tap either:
    • Copy your Google Accounts, apps, and data from your other device
      1. If a compatible device is available, use Tap & Go to setup the phone by placing them back to back.
      2. On the other device, on the Getting started screen, tap NEXT.
      3. Connecting to your device will display on the old phone. If NFC is turned off, turn it on.
      4. Tap COPY once the connection is complete.
      5. Once complete, the old phone will display Success!, tap CLOSE.

  11. On Add your account, to log into your Google account, tap either:
    • Enter your email (for existing):
      1. Enter your password, then tap Next.
      2. Read the "Google services" information and tap NEXT.
      3. On "Get your apps & data," select the previous device you want to restore from and select from the list of apps then tap NEXT.
      4. On "Google services," read through the Google services options and tap NEXT.
      5. While the phone connects to Google servers to download your information it will display a "Restoring" screen.
    • OR CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT (for new)
      1. If desired, enter your name in the First and Last fields.
      2. Tap the NEXT arrow.
      3. Enter in the desired username, then tap NEXT.
      4. Enter in the password and confirm, then tap NEXT.
      5. On Rescue info, setup your MSISDN or select REMIND ME LATER, then tap NEXT. A confirmation will display to send a message to the entered MSISDN.
      6. On Google services, read through the Google services options and tap NEXT.
      7. Once confirmed, tap NEXT.
      8. On Set up payment info, select one of the following:
        • Add credit or debit card
        • Enable T-Mobile -US billing
        • Redeem
        • Remind me later
      9. Tap NEXT. Fill in the requested information, then tap NEXT.
      10. On Google services, read through the Google services options and tap NEXT.
  12. On the Date & time screen, adjust the settings if needed and tap NEXT.
  13. On the Add another email screen choose from one of the following, then tap NEXT:
    • Personal (IMAP/POP)
      1. Enter your email address.
      2. Enter your password, then tap SIGN IN.
      3. Agree to the terms and conditions.
    • Not now
  14. On Protect your phone, tap one of the following:
    • Setup fingerprint
      1. Setup and a backup Pattern, PIN or Password
      2. Follow the directions to place your finger on the Home key to begin the scan.
      3. If the finger is not able to be detected, a pop up asking you to move your finger will appear, tap CONTINUE.
      4. Once the scan is complete, select the notifications that will display on the lock screen (Show content, hide content, or do not show notifications and tap DONE.
      5. Tap NEXT.
    • Set up PIN, pattern, or password
      1. Select the security feature you want to setup and follow the prompts to create and confirm.
      2. Once the security feature setup is complete, select the notifications that will display on the lock screen (Show content, hide content, or do not show notifications and tap DONE.
      3. Tap NEXT.
    • Later to not setup the security feature
  15. On the Get your apps & data screen, select the device and apps you would like to restore content from, then tap NEXT.
  16. "Restoring" will display while the device is updated.
  17. On the "Samsung account" screen, choose one of the following options:
    • If you have a Samsung account, tap Sign in to sign in to your account. Follow the prompts
    • If you want to open a new Samsung account, tap Create new account and then follow the prompts.
    • Tap Skip to log into  or open a Samsung account later.
  18. On Copy content from old device," follow the prompts to complete the move of content using the Samsung adapter or tap LATER.
  19. On Easy mode, select ON or OFF, tap FINISH.
  20. On Device Data Collection, check or uncheck Allow diagnostics then tap NEXT.
  21. On Connection Assistant, tap Accept to allow or Decline to stop the collection.
  22. On Personalized Offers, Accept to allow or Decline to stop the offers.
  23. When finished, your device will now open to Home screen.
  24. When the Smart Switch notification appears, tap Start to transfer content from an old device or Later to start the transfer at a different time. It is recommended to connect to a Wi-Fi network during the content transfer.
