Text to speech: Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Use these steps to use text to speech to have messages read out loud on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

 

 

 

Set up

Note: If you are using Text to speech in English, this language is already installed and available to use.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the My device tab.
  4. Tap Language and input.
  5. Tap Text-to-speech options.
  6. Tap the desired TTS engine to select the engine:
    • Samsung text-to-speech engine
    • Google Text-to-speech Engine
  7. Next to the desired search engine, tap the Settings  icon.
  8. Tap Install voice data.
    Note: For the Samsung text-to-speech engine, the desired language may already be downloaded. Therefore, 'Install voice data' may be unavailable and you can skip to step 11.
  9. Next to the desired language, tap Download or the Download icon.
  10. When the language has downloaded, tap the Back key.
  11. Tap Language and then tap the desired language (if a downloaded language is not immediately available, wait a few minutes. Tap Cancel and then open the list again or restart your device).

 

TalkBack settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Device tab.
  4. Tap Accessibility.
  5. Tap TalkBack.
  6. Tap Settings.
  7. Tap to adjust the desired settings.

 

Text to speech settings

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Controls tab.
  4. Tap Language and input.
  5. Tap Text-to-speech options.
  6. Tap Speech rate and then adjust how fast the text will be spoken.
  7. Tap Hands-free mode to adjust Hands-free mode settings (hands-free mode must be turned on to adjust).
  8. Tap the Settngs  icon next to the desired TTS engine (Samsung or Google).
    Note: To tap the Settings  icon, the TTS engine must be selected (bullet point is filled with color).
  9. Tap Language to adjust the spoken language.
  10. Tap to adjust any other desired settings.

 

Turn on TalkBack

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Device tab.
  4. Tap Accessibility.
  5. Tap TalkBack.
  6. Tap the Talkback Switch to On. The Switch moves right and turns green.
