Backup & restore: Samsung Galaxy Core Prime

Learn how to back up and restore apps, contacts, photos, and data on the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime.

 

 

 

Back up apps

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'Personal', then tap Backup & reset.
  4. Check Back up my data to back up any account data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers.
  5. Check Automatic restore to restore backed up settings and data when re-installing applications.

 

Back up contacts

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap the account you would like to sync.
  5. Tap the MORE icon.
  6. Tap Sync now.

 

Back up contacts to SD card

  1. Make sure your SD card is inserted.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll to 'Device,' then tap Applications.
  5. Tap Contacts.
  6. Tap Import / Export contacts.
  7. Tap Export.
  8. Tap SD card.
  9. Review the file name for the contact list on the pop-up message, then tap OK to confirm export.
  10. A message flashes at the bottom of the screen indicating the contacts will be exported.

 

Back up media & pictures

 

To back up your media and pictures, follow these steps:

 

From your phone

  1. Make sure your SD card is inserted.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap My Files.
  4. Scroll to 'Local storage,' then tap Device storage.
  5. Tap the MORE icon located at top-right to expand the drop-down menu.
  6. Tap Edit.
  7. Locate the folders containing the desired media and picture files.
    • Pictures you capture using the Camera app are stored in the DCIM folder.
    • Media files are usually stored in Notifications, Downloads, or other file names.
  8. To the left of the desired file or folder, select the check box.
  9. Repeat as desired.
  10. Tap the MORE icon located at top-right to expand the drop-down menu.
  11. Tap Copy.
  12. Tap SD card.
  13. If necessary, navigate to and tap the desired folder or tap CREATE FOLDER.
  14. Tap PASTE HERE.

From computer - PC

To backup media using a computer, you can either use the Samsung Smart Switch for PC or follow the below steps:

  1. Connect USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. If necessary, follow these steps:
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device..
    3. Select the Media device (MTP) check box.
  3. On the computer, click Open device to view files.
  4. Navigate to the desired files on your phone.
  5. Drag and drop the files into the desired computer folder.
  6. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

From computer - Mac

  1. If necessary, follow these steps:
    1. Navigate to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/smart-switch-support/#!/ (Select the Smart Switch version compatible with the computer operating system and device.).
    2. Click DOWNLOAD FOR MAC OS.
    3. Follow prompts to download the Samsung Smart Switch for PC software.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the phone.
  3. Connect the USB cable to a computer's USB slot
  4. If necessary, follow these steps:
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device.
    3. Tap Media device to select the check box.
  5. On your computer, open Samsung Smart Switch.
  6. Inside Samsung Smart Switch, click the Back up / restore tab.
  7. If necessary, click the Backup tab.
  8. Next to 'Music' and 'Photo,' select the check box.
  9. To back up all of your files, select 'Select all items' check box.
  10. Click Backup.
  11. Safely disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

Restore contacts

This is done automatically upon the next time you sign into your Google account.

 

Restore media & pictures

 

To restore backed up media and pictures, follow these steps:

 

From device

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap My Files.
  3. Scroll to 'Local storage,' then tap SD card.
  4. Tap the MORE icon located at top-right to expand the drop-down menu.
  5. Tap Edit.
  6. Select the check box next to the files your media or pictures is stored on.
    • Pictures are usually stored to a DCIM file.
    • Media files are usually stored in the media file.
  7. Tap the MORE icon located at top-right to expand the drop-down menu.
  8. Tap Move.
  9. Select Device storage.
  10. If necessary, navigate to and tap the desired folder or tap CREATE FOLDER.
  11. Tap Move here to move to the main phone memory.

 

From computer - PC

  1. Connect USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. If necessary, follow these steps:
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device..
    3. Select the Media device (MTP) check box.
  3. On the computer, click Open device to view files.
  4. Navigate to the desired files on your computer:
    • The Card icon is your SD card.
    • The Phone icon is your device's internal storage.
  5. Drag and drop the files into the desired phone folder.
  6. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.

From computer - Mac

  1. Connect the USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. If necessary. follow these steps:
    1. Touch the Status bar and drag it down.
    2. Tap Connected as a media device.
    3. Tap Media device to select the check box.
  3. On your computer, open Samsung Smart Switch for PC .
  4. Inside Samsung Smart Switch for PC, click the Back up / restore tab.
  5. If necessary, click the Restore tab.
  6. Next to 'Music' and 'Photo,' click the check box to select the check box. If available, click the check boxes next to any other categories you would like to restore.
  7. If you would like to restore all of your files, click the check box next to 'Select all items.'
  8. Click Restore. If necessary, follow any additional prompts.
  9. When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
