Set up a new T-Mobile phone

Congratulations on your new purchase. Below you can find steps to set up your new phone and transfer data and the SIM card from the old one.

 

 

First T-Mobile Phone

  • Insert the SIM card that came the phone and follow the setup wizard.
  • Apple iOS phones arrive with the SIM card pre-inserted.
  • When prompted, sign into or create a new account (Google, Apple, BlackBerry, or Windows) based on phone type.
  • Follow any additional prompts and begin using your phone on the T-Mobile network.

 

T-Mobile Upgrade

  • If you are upgrading from one T-Mobile phone to a new one, follow the applicable steps below.
  • These steps also apply for moving from your BYOD phone you are using on the T-Mobile network to a new T-Mobile phone.

 

 

Android

Let's set up your new Android phone.

 

Android to Android
  1. Sign into you Google account on the old phone select the options to back up.
  2. You can install Google Photos on both devices for easy photo transfer.
  3. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  4. Follow the setup wizard and sign into the same Google account you used for previous phone when prompted
Apple iOS to Android
  1. Apple iOS apps cannot be transferred to Android but you may be able to find similar apps at the Play Store.
  2. For easy data transfer steps, see Switch to Android.
  3. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  4. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
BlackBerry to Android
  1. BlackBerry apps cannot be transferred to Android but you may be able to find similar apps at the Play Store.
  2. You can use BlackBerry Link to transfer your data, pictures, and files to your new device.
  3. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  4. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
Windows to Android
  1. Windows apps cannot be transferred to Android but you may be able to find similar apps at the Play Store.
  2. You can install Microsoft OneDrive on both devices for easy transfer of photos, documents, and other files.
  3. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  4. Follow the setup wizard and sign into or create a new Android account. You can add your Windows account as an additional email.

 

Apple iOS

Let's set up your new Apple iOS phone.

 

Android to Apple iOS
  1. Android apps cannot be transferred to Apple devices but you may be able to find similar apps at the App Store.
  2. You can install Google Photos (iPhone) and Google Photos (Android) on both devices on both devices for easy photo transfer.
  3. You can use Move from Android to iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support to move your data.
  4. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  5. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
Apple iOS to Apple iOS
  1. Sign into your new phone using your existing Apple ID to restore your contacts, music, email, calendars, bookmarks, photos, and other data.

  4. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
BlackBerry to Apple iOS
  1. BlackBerry apps cannot be transferred to Apple devices but you may be able to find similar apps at the App Store.
  2. You can use BlackBerry Link to transfer your data, pictures, and files to your new device.
  3. You can install Dropbox (BlackBerry) and Dropbox (iPhone) on both devices to move your photos.
  4. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  5. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
Windows to Apple iOS
  1. Windows apps cannot be transferred to Apple devices but you may be able to find similar apps at the App Store.

BlackBerry

Let's set up your new BlackBerry phone.

 

Android to BlackBerry
  1. Android apps cannot be transferred to BlackBerry but you may be able to find similar apps at the BlackBerry App Store.
  2. You can use BlackBerry Link to transfer your data, pictures, and files to your new device.
  3. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  4. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
Apple iOS to BlackBerry
  1. Apple iOS apps cannot be transferred to BlackBerry but you may be able to find similar apps at the BlackBerry App Store.
  2. You can use BlackBerry Link to transfer your data, pictures, and files to your new device.
  3. Use iTunes to sync you calendar and contacts with Outlook. The iCloud contact and calendar backup must be turned off.
  4. Move the SIM card from your old phone to the new one if they are the same size. If they are not the same size, use the SIM card that came with the new phone. See Buy or change SIM cards for details.
  5. Once complete, follow the setup wizard on the new device.
BlackBerry to BlackBerry
  1. You can use BlackBerry Link to transfer your data, pictures, and files to your new device.
