Switch to an Android

Android to Android

We recommend you transfer your data when directed during your device's initial or out-of-box setup process, that's usually the easiest way. You might also check for a manufacturer's app, like Samsung Smart Switch.

You can also use your Google account to switch from one Android device to another:

  1. Backup your data on the old device by choosing Settings > System > Advanced > Backup.
  2. Make sure Backup is turned on.
    • If backup is off: turn it on and wait for the device to back up your data.
    • If backup is on: confirm it recently backed up your data. If your data was not recently backed up, back up the device before proceeding.
  3. Use the SIM card that came with the new device. Check SIM cards for details.
  4. Turn on your new device and complete the first time setup.
  5. Transfer your data to the new device by choosing Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google.
  6. Sign in to your Google account where your data is backed up.
  7. You will be asked if you would like to download your synced information, select Yes.
  8. Depending on the amount of data backed up it may take a while to download. You must wait for the download to be complete.
