Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable
  3. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  4. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  5. Right-click the removable disk.
  6. Click Format.

  7. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  8. Click Start.
  9. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

Insert

To insert the memory card, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the battery cover by sliding the back portion of the cover up and away.

  2. Lift and remove the battery.

  3. Slide the memory card door open to "unlock" as noted in the device. Gently lift the edge of the memory card cover up.

  4. To insert the memory card, slide the memory card into the memory card slot with the golden contacts facing down.
  5. Close the memory card door and slide it into the locked position.
  6. Replace the battery.

  7. Replace the back cover.

 

 

Remove

  1. Remove the battery cover by sliding the back portion of the cover up and away.

  2. Lift and remove the battery.

  3. Slide the memory card door open to "unlock" as noted in the device. Lift the edge of the memory card cover up.

  4. Slide the memory card from the memory card slot.
  5. Close and lock the memory card cover.
  6. Replace the battery.

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. On the main screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Phone settings.
  4. Tap USB settings.
  5. Tap Mass storage.
    • You will see a blue circle in the radio button next to the taped item.
  6. Tap Save.
  7. Plug the USB cable into your computer's USB port.
  8. Plug the other end of the USB cable in to your phone.
    • Note: You may need to put the phone in Idle Mode. Press the red End key to return to the main screen.
  9. On your computer, in the Removable disk window, highlight Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Note: If this dialogue box does not appear, double-click My Computer to open an Explorer window and then double-click on Removable disk.

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the main screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Applications.
  3. Tap Files.
  4. Tap the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
  5. Tap Memory card.

 

 

Set default memory storage

 

By default, the device stores data on the internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the main screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Touch and slide the menu upward.
  4. Tap Application settings.
  5. Tap Phonebook.
  6. Tap Save new contacts to.
  7. Tap Phone, SIM, or Always ask.
    • You see a blue circle in the radio button next to the taped item.
  8. Tap Save.

 

 

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Plug the USB cable into your computer's USB port.
  2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into your phone.
    • Note: You may need to put the phone in Idle Mode. Press the red End key to return to the main screen.
  3. On your phone, on the 'Select USB mode' screen, tap Mass storage.
  4. Tap Select.
  5. On your computer, highlight Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer and click OK.Memory card screen.png
  6. Navigate to the desired file on your computer.
  7. Right-click your mouse on the file.
  8. Click Cut.
  9. Navigate to the desired location on your memory card.
  10. Right-click your mouse.
  11. Click Paste.
    • Important: Do not disconnect USB during file transfer.
  12. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your computer taskbar.
  13. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files between internal storage & SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the main screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Applications.
  3. Tap Files.
  4. Tap the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
  5. Tap Memory card.
  6. Tap Images, Videos, or Sounds.
  7. Navigate to the folder containing the file you want to move.
  8. Tap Manage.
  9. Tap Move.
  10. Tap the file(s) you want to move.
    • You see a check in the check box next to the selected files.
  11. Tap Move.
  12. Tap Phone.
  13. Navigate to the folder you want to move the file(s) into.
  14. Tap Move here.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. On the main screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Touch and slide the menu upward.
  4. Tap Memory settings.
  5. Tap Memory card details.
