Master reset with hardware keys

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys. To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

  1. Back up all data on the internal memory.
  1. If the phone is plugged into the charger or USB cable, unplug it.
  2. Remove the battery.
    • Important: Removing the battery is required. Turning off the phone with the Power key does not always work, because of the Fast Boot feature.
  3. Re-insert the battery.
  4. Press and hold the Volume Down key and then briefly press the Power key.
  5. Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen. The following options display:
    • FASTBOOT
    • RECOVERY
    • FACTORY RESET
    • SIMLOCK
    • IMAGE CRC
    • Note: If you are stuck on a screen that says 'HBOOT' and 'FASTBOOT' without any other options to choose from, it means you have pressed the Back button. To get to the regular options, press either thePower key on HBOOT or the Back button.

  6. Press the Volume Down key twice to select FACTORY RESET.
  7. Press the Power key to initiate the master reset.
  8. Wait as the device displays the boot up screen, then shows a picture of arrows above a device with a progress bar. It then restarts.
    • Note: To skip the introduction video so you can continue troubleshooting or using the phone, press theBack button.

Note: If the factory reset screen shows a lock icon, press the power key to make it disappear.
