Master reset: Samsung Vibrant

Learn how to master reset the Samsung Vibrant through the menu or hardware keys.

 

 

 

 

Master reset from settings menu

 

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

 

To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up all data on the internal memory. See: Back up & restore
  2. From any Home screen, tap the Menu Menu_key.pngkey.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Privacy.
  5. Tap Factory data reset.
  6. Tap Reset phone.
  7. Tap Erase everything.
  8. If prompted, enter the password.
        Note: The default password is 1234.
  9. Tap OK.
  10. If necessary, enter and confirm the password again.
  11. Tap OK.

 

 

Master reset with hardware keys

 

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

 

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys. To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up all data on the internal memory. See: Back up & restore
  2. Turn off the phone.
    • Note: If the phone is unresponsive and does not turn off, remove the battery and then re-insert it.
  3. Hold the Volume Up and Volume Down keys.
  4. Press and hold the the Power key. Continue holding it and the Volume keys at the same time.
  5. Release the keys once you see the Android recovery screen.
  6. Press the Volume Down key to scroll to delete all user data when the Android master reset menu appears.
  7. Press the Power key to select it.
  8. Press the Volume Down key to scroll down to Yes -- delete all user data.
  9. Press the Power key to select it.
  10. Wait for a few seconds as the phone clears information.
  11. Press the Volume Down key to scroll down to delete all cache data.
  12. Press the Power key to select it.
  13. Wait for a few seconds ad the phone clears information.
  14. Press the Power key to select reboot system now.
  15. Wait as the phone restarts.
