Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  3. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  4. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  5. Right-click the removable disk.
  6. Click Format.

  7. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  8. Click Start.
  9. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

To insert the memory card, follow these steps:

  1. Press down on the back cover and slide, as shown.

  2. Pull the back cover away to remove it.

    Note: You will find the default SSID (Service Set Identifier) and password printed on the label under the back cover. You will need this information when you connect the Mobile HotSpot to other devices.
  3. Remove the battery by lifting at the notch, as shown.

  4. With the gold contacts facing down, slide the microSD card into the slot, as shown, and push until it clicks into place.arrowin.PNG

 

 

Remove

Push the microSD card into the slot until it clicks and ejects slightly. Slide the card out of the slot.

 

 

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Charge and turn on your Mobile Hotspot.
  2. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the bottom of the Mobile Hotspot.
  3. Plug the large end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    • Note:  When you plug the Mobile Hotspot into your computer for the first time,  you will be prompted to install the Mobile Hotspot Admin shortcut. You  can install the shortcut or cancel if your computer is not Wi-Fi  enabled.
    • Important: If you rename the memory card drive in Computer (My Computer on Windows XP® ), the same name will appear each time the Mobile HotSpot is tethered to the computer. See the picture below:

  4. When a Removable Disk window appears on your computer, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
    • Note: For Mac computers, if the window fails to pup up, click Go, click Computer, and then double click the Removable remvoabledisk.JPG.jpg disk  icon.

  5. Click OK.
  6. Double-click the folder that contains the files you want to access.
  7. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.
  8. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.
    • For Mac computers, when you are finished, drag and drop the Removable disk remvoabledisk.JPG.jpg icon into theTrash/Eject icon.

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. Charge and turn on your Mobile Hotspot.
  2. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the bottom of the Mobile Hotspot.
  3. Plug the large end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer.  
    • Note:  When you plug the Mobile Hotspot into your computer for the first time,  you will be prompted to install the Mobile Hotspot Admin shortcut. You  can install the shortcut or cancel if your computer is not Wi-Fi  enabled.
  4. When a Removable Disk window appears on your computer, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
    • Note: For Mac computers, if the window fails to pup up, click Go, click Computer, and then double click the Removable disk remvoabledisk.JPG.jpg icon.

  5. Click OK.
  6. On the computer, double-click the folder in the memory card to access your files.
  7. Drag and drop or copy and paste the file into the desired folder on your memory card.
  8. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.
  9. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.  
    • Caution: Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer.
    • For Mac computers, when you are finished, drag and drop the Removable disk remvoabledisk.JPG.jpg icon into theTrash/Eject icon.

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. Charge and turn on your Mobile Hotspot.
  2. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the bottom of the Mobile Hotspot.
  3. Plug the large end of the USB cable into a USB port on your computer.  
    • Note:  When you plug the Mobile Hotspot into your computer for the first time,  you will be prompted to install the Mobile Hotspot Admin shortcut. You  can install the shortcut or cancel if your computer is not Wi-Fi  enabled.
  4. When a Removable Disk window appears on your computer, click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
    • Note: For Mac computers, if the window fails to pup up, click Go, click Computer, and then double click the Removable disk remvoabledisk.JPG.jpg icon.

  5. Click OK.
  6. Right-click a blank portion of the memory card window. Make sure you do not right-click any of the folders that you see.
    • Note: For Mac computers, click once on the removable disk remvoabledisk.JPG.jpg icon, and then press and hold thecontrol key and then left-click, click Get info and then view Capacity, Available, and Used.
  7. Click Properties.
  8. View the Used space and Free space on the memory card.
