Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Memory settings.
  4. Tap Memory card details.
  5. Tap Format.
  6. Tap Yes to confirm.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

 

Insert

To insert the memory card, follow these steps:

  1. Use your fingernail to open the microSD card slot on the left side of the phone.
  2. Gently insert the SD card with the gold contacts facing down.

  3. Push the SD card into the slot until you hear a click.
  4. Replace the SD card slot cover.

 

 

Remove

  1. Use your fingernail to open the microSD card slot on the left side of the phone.
  2. Gently push the SD card into the slot until you hear a click. The card will release outward.
  3. Remove the card.
  4. Replace the SD card slot cover.

 

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

PC

  1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
  2. On the computer when the AutoPlay window appears, click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.
    Note: If the AutoPlay window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.
  3. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the Card folder.
  4. Navigate to the folder containing the file(s) you want to access.
  5. Select files to open or delete.
  6. When finished, safely disconnect the device from the computer.

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap My Files.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select Memory Card.
  4. Navigate to the file(s) you want to access.
  5. Perform one of the following actions:
    • Open a file
      • Select the file that you want to open.
    • Delete a file
      1. Select the file that you want to delete.
      2. Tap More.
      3. Scroll to and tap Delete.
      4. Tap Yes.

 

 

Set default memory storage

 

By default, the device stores data on the internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Applications.
  3. Tap Camera.
  4. Tap Setup.
  5. Tap the Settings tab.
  6. Scroll down and tap the Storage drop-down menu.
  7. Select one of the following:
    • Phone
    • Memory card

 

 

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Connect the device to a computer using the USB cable.
  2. On the computer when the AutoPlay window appears, click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.
    Note: If the AutoPlay window does not appear automatically, check that the USB cable is completely plugged in, or try another USB port.
  3. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, double-click the Card folder.
  4. Copy and paste, or drag and drop the desired file(s) from your computer into the Card folder on your device.
  5. When transferring files, safely disconnect the device from the computer.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Memory settings.
  4. Tap Memory card details.
  5. Scroll to the 'Available' field to view the space information.
