Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  2. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  3. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  4. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  5. Right-click the removable disk.
  6. Click Format.

  7. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  8. Click Start.
  9. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

To insert the memory card, follow these steps:

  1. Slide the release switch and lift the back cover to remove it.

  2. Lift the battery out of the compartment to remove it.

  3. Push the memory card holder toward the bottom of the phone, and lift up the holder.

  4. Insert the memory card into the memory card holder with the gold contacts facing down.

  5. Lower and lock the memory card holder by pushing it toward the top of the phone.

  6. Insert the battery and align the gold contacts on the battery with the gold contacts inside the phone. Lower the battery into position.

  7. Insert the back cover into the slots and press the back cover down until it clicks into place.

Remove

  1. Slide the release switch and lift the back cover to remove it.

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable.

  2. From the Home screen, touch the top of the screen and drag down to display the notifications window.
  3. Tap USB connected.

  4. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. On the computer, a Removable Disk window appears. Click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  7. Click OK.
  8. Navigate to the desired folder to access your files.
  9. When finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower right corner of your computer screen.
  10. Click USB Mass Storage Device.
  11. Click Stop.
  12. Click USB Mass Storage Device.
  13. Click OK.
    • Note: A Safe To Remove Hardware alert appears in the lower right corner of your computer screen.
  14. On the phone, tap Turn off USB storage.
  15. Disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Application Tray button.
  2. Select one of the following options:
  • Tap Gallery to access photos and videos.
  • Tap Music to access music files.

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Connect the phone to your computer using the USB cable.

  2. From the Home screen, touch the top of the screen and drag down to display the notifications window.
  3. Tap USB connected.

  1. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  2. Tap OK.
  3. On the computer, a Removable Disk window appears. Click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  4. Click OK.
  5. Navigate to the desired folder to access your files.
  6. Select and move or copy and paste the desired files into a folder in the Removable Disk window.
  7. When finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower right corner of your computer screen.
  8. Click USB Mass Storage Device.
  9. Click Stop.
  10. Click USB Mass Storage Device.
  11. Click OK.
    • Note: A Safe To Remove Hardware alert appears in the lower right corner of your computer screen.
  12. On the phone, tap Turn off USB storage.
  13. Disconnect the phone from the computer.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Under SD card, view the Available space.
