Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  3. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  4. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  5. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  6. Right-click the removable disk.
  7. Click Format.

  8. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  9. Click Start.
  10. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

  1. Use the notch on the bottom of the phone to detach and pull the back cover away. Gently press the memory card into the slot, as shown.

  2. To remove, gently slide the memory card from the slot.

 

 

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

PC

  1. From any Home screen,  touch the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Storage.
  4. Touch Mass storage only to enable.
  5. Connect the USB cord  to the phone, then to a computer.
  6. Touch Turn on USB storage.
  7. Touch OK.
  8. When a Removable Disk  window appears on your computer, double-click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.

  9. Click OK.
  10. On the computer, double-click  the memory card folder that contains the file you want to delete.
  11. Right-click the file  you want to delete and then click Delete.
  12. Click Yes.
  13. Caution:  Do not disconnect the USB cable while the file is being deleted
  14. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.
  15. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.
  16. On your phone, touch Turn off USB storage.
  17. Disconnect the USB  cable from your phone.

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen,  touch Applications.
  2. Touch Polaris Office.
  3. If desired, register  with Infraware or touch Later.
  4. Touch My files.
  5. Navigate to the file  you would like to delete.
  6. Touch and hold the  file.
  7. Touch Delete.
  8. Touch OK.

 

 

Set default memory storage

 

By default, the device stores data on the internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch Applications.
  2. Touch Books.
  3. Touch the Menu key.
  4. Touch Settings.
  5. Touch Storage location.
  6. Touch one of the following options:
    • Switch to internal storage
    • Switch to the SD card

 

 

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

PC

  1. From any Home screen,  touch the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Storage.
  4. Touch Mass storage only to enable.
  5. Connect the USB cord  to the phone, then to a computer.
  6. Touch Turn on USB storage.
  7. Touch OK.
  8. When a Removable Disk  window appears on your computer, double-click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer

  9. Click OK.
  10. Double-click to open  the folder on the computer containing the file(s) you want to move.
  11. Copy and paste or  drag and drop the files into the desired location on your memory card.
  12. Caution:  Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer.
  13. When you are  finished, click the Safely Remove  Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.
  14. Click Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.
  15. On your phone, touch Turn off USB storage.
  16. Disconnect the USB  cable from your phone.

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, touch the Menu key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Storage.
  4. Under SD card,view Available space.
