Beginning August 13, the iPhone 4S/5/5c/5s/6/6 Plus and iPad Air/Air 2/mini/mini 2/mini 3 receive a a software update to iOS 8.4.1. This update provides features and improvements:

New features

  • Provides a way to add songs to a new playlist if there aren't any playlists to choose from.

Improvements

  • Resolves issues that could prevent turning on iCloud Music Library.
  • Resolves an issue that hides added music because Apple Music was set to show offline music only.
  • Resolves an issue that may show different artwork for an album on an older device.
  • Resolves several issues for artists while posting to Connect.
  • Fixes an issue where tapping Love doesn't work as expected when listening to Beats 1.
  • Additional security updates

  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap About.
  4. Read the version on the phone, and check it below:

Requirements to update

To be able to update to the current software version, the below requirements must be met:

 

Software Version

  • iPhone 4S/5/5c/5s/6/6 Plus and iPad Air/Air 2/mini/mini 2/mini 3
  • Device software is not jailbroken
  • 50% battery life or connected to a power source
  • Wi-Fi Data connection or a computer with iTunes and internet access
  • Less than 1GB available memory (File size of update is ~60 MB)

  • iPhone 4S/5/5c/5s/6/6 Plus and iPad Air/Air 2/mini/mini 2/mini 3
  • Latest iOS 8 software version
  • Device software is not jailbroken
  • 50% battery life or connected to a power source
  • Data connection or a computer with iTunes and internet access
  • Minimum of 1 MB available memory (File size of update is ~10 KB).

Software update: Automatic (OTA)

Update automatically Over-The-Air (OTA)

 

Important: It is highly recommended you complete a backup (via iCloud or iTunes) prior to updating device software. This is a safety measure that will ensure you do not lose any contacts, messages, pictures, or other important device data.

 

This software update will be pushed to your phone between August 13 and September 13. Your phone will notify you when it is ready to update. If your phone has not received an OTA message, see Software update: Download below.

 

After receiving the OTA notification, follow these steps:

 

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notifications.
  2. Tap the software update notification.
  3. Tap Download.
    Note: You must be connected to Wi-Fi to complete this step.
  4. After the download has completed, tap Install to update.
