Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Back up data on the storage or SD card, if desired.
  2. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  3. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  4. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  5. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  6. Right-click the removable disk.
  7. Click Format.

  8. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  9. Click Start.
  10. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

To insert the memory card, follow these steps:

  1. Power the phone off.
  2. Remove the back cover using the notch on the  bottom-left of the phone.
  3. Slide SIM into compartment with text-side up.

  1. Power the phone off.
  2. Remove the back cover using the notch located at  the bottom-left of the phone.

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Connect the phone to your computer  using the USB cable.
  2. Tap Turn on USB storage.
    • Note: In some instances, you may have  to touch and drag the Status bar down and tap USB connected.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. On the computer,  navigate to and open the phone’s disk drive.

    : If  available, two pop-up windows will appear: one for an external memory card and  one for the internal phone memory. Otherwise one pop-up window will appear (the  internal phone memory). Click on

Open  folder to view files

  1. to access the files.
  2. Navigate to and  delete the desired file(s).
  3. When finished,  safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
  4. Tap Turn off USB storage.

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap File Manager.
  3. Tap the SD card tab.
  4. Navigate to the  desired folder and file.

 

 

Set default memory storage

 

When your phone has an external memory card installed (SD  card), the Camera / Camcorder application automatically saves pictures and  videos to the external memory card. When your phone lacks an external memory card, your phone  saves pictures and videos to your internal phone memory.

 

 

Therefore, to save pictures and videos to your phone memory,  remove your external memory card (SD card). Otherwise, leave you external  memory card installed in the phone to save pictures and videos to the external  memory card (SD card).

 

 

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

  1. Connect the phone to your computer  using the USB cable.
  2. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  3. Tap OK.
    • Note: If available, two pop-up windows will appear: one for an external memory card and one for the internal phone memory. Otherwise one pop-up window will appear (the internal phone memory). Click on Open folder to view files to access the files.
  4. On the computer,  navigate to and open the phone’s disk drive.
  5. Click to open the  desired file(s).
  6. Copy the files you  want to move.
  7. Paste the files in  the desired location on the computer.
  8. When finished,  safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
  9. Tap Turn off USB storage.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files between internal storage & SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap File Manager.
  3. Tap Local
  4. Navigate to the  desired folder and file.
  5. Touch and hold the  file you want to copy.
  6. Tap Copy.
  7. Navigate back to  and tap the SD Card tab.
  8. Tap the desired  folder.
  9. Tap Paste.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Under SD card,  view Total space and Available  space.
