Learn how to format the SD card and manage files using the SD card, internal storage, and a computer.

 

 

 

 

Format SD card

 

Formatting the SD card deletes all data on it. You may wish to format the SD card if you want to delete the files, if files or apps on the SD card are not working, or if the SD card is not working.

 

To format the SD card while inserted in the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. Plug the device into a computer with a USB cable.
  2. From the Notification bar, verify that Disk Drive or Mass Storage mode are selected.

  3. On the computer Start menu, navigate to Computer or My Computer.
  4. Find the Removable disk located under devices with removable storage.

  5. Right-click the removable disk.
  6. Click Format.

  7. Verify the file system is set at FAT32 and Quick Format is selected.

  8. Click Start.
  9. Wait a few minutes for the computer to format the SD card.
    Note: If errors appear during this process, the SD card is likely defective.

 

 

Insert / remove SD card

 

To insert or remove the SD card, follow these steps:

To insert the memory card, follow these steps:

  1. Using the notch on the left side of the phone, remove the back cover.
  2. Gently slide the SD memory card into the memory card slot with the golden contacts facing down, as shown.

  3. Replace the back cover.

 

 

Remove

  1. Using the notch on the left side of the phone, remove the back cover.
  2. Gently press the SD memory card into the memory card slot until you hear a click. The card will pop out slightly.
  3. Gently remove the SD memory card from the memory card slot,as shown.

Open / delete files

 

Open or delete files using the computer

To open or delete files on the SD card using a computer, follow these steps:

 

You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

PC

  1. Connect the USB cord to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. Touch the Status bar and drag down to open the Notification screen.
  3. Tap USB connected.
  4. Tap Turn on USB Storage.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Your phone is now mounted as a disk drive on the computer.
  7. On your computer, click Open folder to view files and click OK.
  8. You will see another Removable Disk window, click Open folder to view files and click OK again.
    • Note: One folder shows files saved in your phone memory and one folder shows files saved on your SD card.
  9. Locate the folder that contains files saved on your SD card.
  10. View or move files, as desired.
  11. When done, on your phone, tap Turn off USB storage.

Mac

  1. Connect the USB cord to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. Touch the Status bar and drag down to open the Notification screen.
  3. Tap USB connected.
  4. Tap Turn on USB Storage.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Your phone is now mounted as a disk drive on the computer.

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the SD card using the device, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Application.
  2. Tap My Files.
  3. Tap All files.
  4. Tap the extSdCard folder to access your memory card folders.
  5. Tap the file you would like to access.

 

 

Set default memory storage

 

By default, the device stores data on the internal storage. To set the default memory storage to another location, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Application.
  2. Tap Camera.
  3. Tap the Settings icon.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap one of the follow options:
    • Phone
    • Memory card

 

 

Transfer files

 

Transfer files between computer & SD card

To transfer files and pictures between the computer and SD card, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must use the USB cable that comes with your phone.

 

PC

  1. Connect the USB cord to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. Touch the Status bar and drag down to open the Notification screen.
  3. Tap USB connected.
  4. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  5. On your computer, click Open folder to view files and click OK.
  6. You will see another Removable Disk window, click Open folder to view files and click OK again.
    • Note: One folder shows files saved in your phone memory and one folder shows files saved on your SD card.
  7. Locate the folder that contains files saved on your SD card.
  8. Locate the file(s) you want to move on your computer.
  9. Cut or copy and paste the desired file(s) from your computer to your SD card.
  10. When done, on your phone, tap Turn off USB storage.

 

Mac

  1. Connect the USB cord to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. Touch the Status bar and drag down to open the Notification screen.
  3. Tap USB connected.
  4. Tap Turn on USB storage.
  5. Double-click the removable disk icon that appears on your desktop.
  6. Locate the folder that contains files saved on your SD card.
  7. Locate the file(s) you want to move on your computer.
  8. Cut or copy and paste the desired file(s) from your computer to your SD card.
  9. When done, on your phone, tap Turn off USB storage.

 

 

Transfer files between internal storage & SD card

To transfer files between internal storage & SD card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Application.
  2. Tap My files.
  3. Tap All files.
  4. Tap sdcard0 to enter your device's memory files.
  5. Navigate to the desired file. Touch and hold on the file and then tap Move .
  6. Tap to select the check box next to each file you want to move. You can also tap to select the Select all check box to move all files in the folder.
  7. Tap Move (Mover).
  8. Tap the extSdCard folder to enter the memory card storage.
  9. Tap the desired folder.
  10. Tap Move here.

 

 

View free SD card space

To view the amount of free SD card storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Under SD card, view Available space.
