Learn how to customize the display and adjust the backlight on the HTC One (M8).

Backlight: Change brightness
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to 'PHONE' and tap Display & gestures.
- Tap Brightness level.
- If necessary, clear the Automatic brightness check box.
- Touch the screen and slide the Automatic brightness slider to adjust the settings.
Backlight: Timeout
Android 4.4
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to 'PHONE' and tap Display, gestures & buttons.
- Tap Sleep.
- Select the desired backlight setting.
Android 5.0+
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to 'PHONE' and tap Display & gestures.
- Tap Screen timeout.
- Select the desired backlight setting.
Widget or Shortcut: Add
Android 4.4
- Touch and hold a vacant spot on any Home screen.
- Select a panel to add the widget, shortcut, or application screen to.
- Tap the Search icon to find a specific item quickly.
- Select either option from the drop-down menu:
- Widgets
- Scroll to and tap the desired widget.
- Selected screen must have available space large enough to fit the widget.
- Shortcuts
- Tap the Shortcuts tab.
- Scroll to and tap the desired shortcut item.
- Widgets
Android 5.0+
- Touch and hold a vacant spot on any Home screen.
- Tap Add apps and widgets.
- Select a panel to add the widget, shortcut, or application screen to.
- Tap the Search icon to find a specific item quickly.
- Select either option from the drop-down menu:

- Scroll to and tap the desired widget.
- Selected screen must have available space large enough to fit the widget.
- Shortcuts
- Tap the Shortcuts tab.
- Scroll to and tap the desired shortcut item.
- Widgets
Widget or Shortcut: Delete
- Touch and hold a widget, shortcut, or application on any Home screen.
- Slide the widget or application over Remove at the top of the screen.
- Release your finger.
Status Lights
- Solid Green: Connected to power adapter or computer, and battery is fully charged.
- Flashing Green: Pending notification.
- Solid Orange: Battery is being charged.
- Flashing Orange: Battery level is very low.
Wallpaper: Home screen
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Personalize.
- Tap Choose wallpaper.
- Select one of these options:
- HTC wallpapers
- Scroll to the desired wallpaper image.
- If desired, tap PREVIEW.
- Tap APPLY.
- Live wallpapers
- Scroll to the desired wallpaper image.
- If desired, tap PREVIEW.
- Tap APPLY.
- Gallery
- Navigate to and select the desired image.
- Touch the screen and slide the crop box to move it to the portion of the image you want.
- Touch the screen and slide any corner of the crop box to adjust the size.
- Tap DONE.
- HTC wallpapers
Wallpaper: Lock screen
Android 4.4
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Personalize.
- Tap Lock screen style.
- Touch the screen and slide left or right to select from available lock screen options.
- If necessary, tap SETTINGS to select a home or custom wallpaper.
- Tap APPLY.
Android 5.0+
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Personalize.
- Tap Lock screen wallpaper.
- Select a home or custom wallpaper.
- Tap APPLY.
