Learn how to view free space and free up storage on the HTC One (M8).




Adjust storage settings

  1. Set text and multimedia message limits to delete messages automatically.
  2. The default is 200 text and 20 picture messages.
  3. From any Home screen, tap Messages.
  4. Tap Menu.
  5. Tap Settings.
  6. Tap General.
  7. Tap to select Delete old messages. 
  8. Tap Text message limit.
  9. Set desired limit.
  10. Tap OK.
  11. Tap Multimedia message limit
  12. Set desired limit.
  13. Tap OK.


Clear storage regularly

It must be over 150 MB for your device. The Android system cannot work properly if the internal device storage is below 150 MB. If under 150 MB, use the following tips to clear more storage:


  • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
  • Transfer pictures and media to a computer to remove them from the phone memory.
  • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
  • Clear Facebook app cache.
  • Manage applications. See section below.
  • Delete the call logs.


Manage applications

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'PHONE' and tap Apps.
  4. If necessary, swipe left or right to the All screen or the Downloaded screen.
  5. To sort apps from largest users of ROM to lowest, tap Menu and then tap Sort by size. The apps using the most ROM are now listed at the top of the list.
  6. Tap the desired application to be uninstalled. Uninstalling an app will delete the app.
  7. Tap Uninstall and then tap OK.


View free storage space

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'PHONE' and tap Storage.
  4. Scroll to 'PHONE STORAGE' to view the Available value.
