Drivers for computers

Your phone can share its mobile data connection with a single computer over a USB cable.

 

Tethering works with Windows® 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista®, Mac OS X, and Linux. For more information about tethering and operating systems, visit www.android.com/tether.

 

For Windows XP, you must have the appropriate driver installed on your computer before you can tether. To learn more, go to www.android.com/tether.

Mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi

Set up mobile hotspot

To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

Note: Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot settings cannot be changed when Wi-Fi sharing is turned on.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS,' tap More.
  4. Tap Mobile network sharing.
  5. Tap Mobile Hotspot settings.
  6. If necessary, read the message and tap OK.
  7. Edit the 'ROUTER NAME (SSID)' field as necessary.
  8. If desired, select one of the following options in the 'SECURITY' field:
    • None
    • WEP (128)
    • WPA (TKIP)
    • WPA2 (AES)
  9. If desired, tap the Password text entry field to change the password.
  10. Tap Manage users.
  11. Verify the Allowed users only check box is not selected.
  12. Tap Done.
  13. Press Back.
  14. Select or clear the Mobile Hotspot check box.

 

 

Turn on / off mobile hotspot

To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under 'WIRELESS & NETWORKS, ' tap More.
  4. Tap Mobile network sharing.
  5. Select or clear the Mobile Hotspot check box.

 

Your phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect to it with up to five computers or other devices. Your phone’s default SSID is HTC One M8.

Tethering via USB

To share you mobile data connection with a computer over a USB cable, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect a USB cord to the phone, then to a computer.
  2. An icon will appear to indicate that the USB cord is connected.
  3. Touch the screen and slide the Status bar downward.
  4. Tap USB network setting.
  5. Tap USB tethering.

 

Once the Tethering icon  is displayed, your phone is sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the USB connection. When finished, disable tethering and then safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
